Kat, the new girl again, photo's of Eesha

  • @BasenjiDiva:

She is such a pretty little girl and is so fortunate to find someone who so obviously cares about her and loves her so much already. Welcome to the forum!

    Pat

    Hi Pat,

Thank you for your message, it cheered me up, you are all so friendly! She has fitted straight into our family, I can't imagine her not being around now. She certainly gets plenty of attention and cuddles! Thanks for the welcome, how long have you been into Basenji's, do you have many? 🙂

  • Well it does sound like you should not bother with that breeder anymore (in the US he would be called a "puppy mill"). However, as already mentioned, be aware that there may be health issues down the line (particularly the fanconi and also have the eyes checked and thyroid). Nevertheless congratulations on having been adopted by a basenji - she looks absolutely gorgeous (but then all basenjis do :)).
Feel free to ask questions about her health or behavior or how to train or whatever. This group has a tremendous amount of collective knowledge and willing to share.

  • Yes, that is a very good idea that you contact Sally Wallis directly… she might be able to help you sort out who the breeder is and maybe help you find out who the sire and dam are, since the breeder is not being helpful. You can find her email on her website www.zandebasenjis.com

  • @Maya:

Hi and Welcome. Nice to see another UK member.

Your girl looks lovely, such a shame that the conditions were not good, very poor of the breeder to allow them to get in that state and not clean them immediately, it risks all sorts of problems…

Im glad she has such a loving, caring owner now though. Look forward to seeing photos as she grows!

    Hi Maya,

Thanks for the welcome, yes lovely to see another UK member in you too, hopefully we can stay in touch and share pics and stories, I've looked at some of your pics, they're lovely.

I know, the breeder really wasn't fit to look after himself let alone any puppies and older dogs. It was horrible to see, but it does go on doesn't it.

Yes we have completely taken her into our family, she's one of us. I love her to bits! I will take some more photo's soon as she has grown quite quickly since the ones I have put on, she's getting so tall!!

    Talk soon 🙂

    Katty23,

I actually just got my boy Otis two weeks ago. He was my Mother's Day present (we celebrated that yesterday here, don't know if you do it at a later date, I know Sweden does :).) He is 4 months old and yes I love being his new mommy. He is very unusual, and I say that because I of course compare him to our other dogs (a Schnorkie and Dachshund), and to be honest I love the differences…my favorite...the non barking, being that the two other dogs are very yappy, I love that trait. He has been very sweet, not destructive at all, I am waiting for that to happen, but so far so good. I guess maybe the two other dogs keep him on his toes.
Keep us updated on her tests and all that. Otis came from probably clear/normal parents but I am still going to do the testing to be absolutely sure and ready if he were to turn out affected.
    Basenjimamma

  • She looks totally Basenji to me - their neck markings vary and some of them are very unusual, like Easha. She's a pretty girl!

  • What a pretty bitch I am sure you will have a lot of fun with her.. Welcome to the site, I have only been on a short time but have found it very informative and friendly.
Re the breeder - he sounds not at all nice and hopefully he'll answer your calls soon.
You are very kind to take her on and I can understand that if the conditions were so bad how strongly you felt that you should give her a good home.
I have sent you a private message because someone must have sold this man the mother and she is probably registered. I would think that the same goes for the father.
I will send you my telephone number if you e mail me and would be very interested in this man's address. We should be able to trace this litter with the help of Sally and her website.

  • Hello & welcome from Canada. Good looking girl you have there. Congrats.

  • Katty23 - hello. I have been trawling through Sally's website to try to discover your puppy's details for you. There are some breeders in the East of England. You say that there were 15 dogs - were they all Basenjis? Did he give you any advice about Basenjis? Did he offer you registration papers You'll be able to get plenty of advice on this forum. Has she had her jabs? It is essential that she be socialised with other dogs as well as people- have you got any dog clubs nearby?
If you are feeding a complete kibble type feed make sure that she has plenty to drink. Basenjis in general don't drink much and so it's advisable to give plenty of liquid with the food.
Be very firm with her even though she is only a baby. Help her to learn that no means no. Set parameters for her and make sure she abides by them. Basenjis have very good memories and if you give in once she won't forget that and will use it in future.

Please read my private thread to you and then we will be in touch. I am always willing to talk 'Basenji'. My home is always open to visitors to see and learn about Basenjis but I appreciate that you are a long way from me. We can always talk on the 'phone.
I'm sorry that this sounds a bit formal. It's just that I am most concerned that you have a happy relationship with your baby.
Basenjis are fun and It sounds as though you are having a lot of fun with her.

  • Katty23 - I have not been able to find out anything -yet. I am concerned as to who Eesha's breeder is as she obviously has littermates and they might not be as lucky as your little puppy. When I have the name etc. I can take some sort of action. Rest assured that your name won't be mentioned and it could mean that the others get as good a home as Eesha obviously has.

  • Hi Katty23

I'm fairly new to this forum too. I've been reading this thread with interest. I totally agree with Patty, we need to think of Eesha's brothers and sisters and try to offer them help if we can. You can contact me through my website www.benkurabasenjis.co.uk if you don't want to leave any details on the forum.

  • I really hope this person can be traced for the sake of the litter mates:( I am just hoping that this is not someone that is active in the breed:rolleyes:

  • basi - me too. I have checked some litters of any breeders in Katty's area and have found a possible although I can't imagine (given the conditions tha Katty speaks about) that it could be that one.
katty23 - I hope you've returned to this thread by now. Let's have some more news of Eesha soon.

Yes I know some that are in that area but really couldn't see it being them, well I would like to think it wouldn't be.

  • Welcome from Tyler, Katie and their humans. Eesha is a cutie. Hope you find this a welcoming site with all the information you need to live happily with your new pup for many years to come.:)

It may not always be fun with a Basenji pup, but it will certainly be an adventure.:D Keep your sense of humor, it will help.

Best wishes, Dawn (and family) from Illinois.

  • Eesha,
is absolutely gorgeous, i dont know how long i can last without another Basenji. They are hard work, like no other dog i have known before, but they certainly are very special. I hope you have years of fun with your new little girl.

  • Katty23 - It's some time since we heard from you. I hopen that everything is ok with you and with Eesha. Let us have your news soon, please, we are anxious to know that all is well.

    Hello Patty!

I'm so sorry if I worried anyone at all, Eesha is fine, as are we, my sister got taken into hospital and we all went down to south of england to stay with her family, they do not have internet so couldn't update anyone of situation as to why I hadn't been on the forum. Tried to connect a couple times from my mobile, but it wouldn't work.
My sister is recovering nicely now and we are back home. Sorry to anyone that thought I was being ignorant.

How are you Patty? I will reply to your private e-mail address in a moment and let you know what's going on re breeder etc.

Eesha is doing well and growing at an alarming rate, haha. She is so solid and heavy!! I have a video of her, my Fiance Gavin was having a bath, left the door open (big mistake) and Eesha ran in and decided it was her bath, he called me up and I filmed it, it made us laugh so much!! She's such a funny puppy!

Ok hope to hear from you soon. Katty x

    Hi again Patty,
I didn't realise this post was on here, so I'll reply to it now.
I really appreciate all you are doing to try and find eeshas details and the breeder, it's so nice to think so many people care like we do. There was around 15 dogs, couldn't see exactly but that's how many i counted and they weren't all Basenji's they were half and half chocolate labs.
He did give us a lot of advice about Basenji's, he even had a painting of an African man carrying a Basenji around his neck, but didn't offer registration papers and I don't know why we didn't ask, I just really wanted to take Eesha out of there, I feel bad now that I didn't try and find more out about him and the other dogs, I suppose I just thought if i started asking too may questions he might get funny and chuck us out?! That sounds pathetic doesn't it.
Yes she's had both of her jabs and we have microchipped her too.
We have found a puppy party that happens twice a month, so she has been to that a few times and even won cutest puppy!!!
Also we take her to our local village a lot and we know a lot of people with dogs, so she has met quite a few and gets on suprisingly well with them.
Apart from one of my sisters Jack Russel Bitches, they didn't get on at all!!
She has even met two Japanese Akita's and didn't batter an eyelid, tough little girl!!!
We have taught her to sit and stay (when she feels like it)!! Thank you for saying we could talk "BasenjI" and it would be lovely to one day to visit and see your Basenji's and learn more about them.
Ok I better do some work now!! Talk soon
