@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

I have a really boring job compared to everyone else…
I just work as a Receptionist and Administrator for a fairly small office. Not the most exciting work, but lovely people and we have fun!
For hobbies i do my dog showing! Before that i was very much into horse riding and used to do Showjumping through the winter and Eventing in the Summer. We were quite successful with that!! Sadly a car crash which messed up my knee pretty badly put an end to any career i could have had doing that

Well, my former job was interesting…I was a zookeeper for over 10 years, mostly mammals, and towards the end of that career I specialized in primates. I also trained dogs at a local school for years as an additional part time job. I left the zoo when our first son was born in '03. A few years ago, the training school closed, so I started my own dog training and behavioral consultation business. But that has slowed down considerably with the birth of our twins in July. So mostly I am a stay at home mom right now. I am in the process of getting the business up and going again...but the economy is SOOO bad in our area, it has been difficult.
What do I do for fun? I can't really remember
I love doing stuff with the dogs when I have some spare time. Everything pretty much revolves around kid and dog activities here...we used to go to movies, before you had to take out a 2nd mortgage to afford the movie AND popcorn AND soda...ugh. -

He is writing a flora of the Oak Openings region (Oak Savanna)…well, he has been working on it for years, but it will be done some day! For a day job he is a wetland scientist for a civil engineering company.

I worked as an engineer for Ford for 8 years doing crash testing and then I left the sinking auto industry and MI to do failure analysis on hip implants for Stryker Orthopadics in NJ. Then a job opportunity came up here in CT working for Consumer Reports Magazine doing auto safety and child safety research at their auto test track and I just couldn't pass it up! Doesn't hurt that my boyfriend is in CT also!
Hobbies - anything outside, traveling, hiking, tennis, rollerblading, road biking and most recently running. I have always been an awful runner and now I'm determined to get better at it. Hoping to do a half marathon sometime this year.

I work in a general contractor's office, and I have my dogs (and Carrie) to thank for that. I met Carrie/Andrew because I have basenjis and she was the connection that landed me a temporary position doing database maintenance. Six months later that temporary position has expanded to "all around everything". They throw at me whatever they think I can handle and I have learned A LOT. We build mostly schools for local counties.

In English: Basically I work in an Intellectual Property law firm in DC. My position is a bridge between the professional recruiting & professional development departments. Basically, professional recruiting is the interviewing, recruitment & hiring of lawyers, law students or anyone with potential to go to law school. Professional development is coordinating all of those people after they are hired. I dabble in both departments, taking on assignments from both.
It's interesting work but I hope to be more on the recruiting side eventually.

Homeschooling mom for 14 yrs.
For relaxation I garden, play games, spend time with friends, hike…. pretty usual "mom stuff". I volunteer at my church, host a women's Bible study in my home.... and of course am a slave to two Basenjis! -
I am an accountant as well as a student. I am working on my MBA. I have been at Battelle Memorial Institute for 10 years and don't plan to leave. but only in the accounting field for 2 years. Prior to that I worked in research. I would like to switch locations to a warmer state though.
In my spare time, I am a landlord for 6 units. but I only really have to manage the other half of my duplex. the four unit just sucks me dry of funds.
I also am a mentor for an at risk child through project mentor through big brothers/ big sisters.
Foster parent for BRAT. and a mom of an wonderful 8 year old and a wife to the most wonderful hubby on the planet.

Middle school (gr.6-8) librarian to about 720 kids in a low income, high gang affiliation community. Some days, my Basenji's are tougher than the kids I work with;).
The better half, he's a manager for large computer warehouse company.
Darling daughter, a college senior in a very small Wisconsin town with a pre-vet minor and a double major in Fishery ecology and management/Wildlife ecology and management.
Family hobbies: keeping the dogs engaged, collecting carnival and depression glass, keeping the dogs happy, flower gardening, keeping the dogs from eating previously mentioned flowers and digging up new transplants, ongoing rehab of our old Victorian house, keeping the dogs from doing their own version of home rehab, picking up dog poop from the back yard, etc…. I think you get the picture:D

Danny, I love PR, I use to live in Borinquen. We are retired Coast Guard, and were stationed there twice. My 25 yr. old son was born in Moca, PR and we left when he was 2, and returned for 3 more years when he was 9. He remembers it with fond memories also. I was a hairdresser for 20yrs. and decided it was not for me any longer once we retired and bought our home. I was a homeschool mom for my son for 5yrs. and then when the Math got too hard for me he went back to private school where he graduated. Now I am a mailcarrier also, and love my job. I am a contracted worker and when I am finished with my deliveries I go home. Working with people is always a hard job, but the relationships you have with them is so rewarding most of the time. Some people are real funny over their mail, I once thought that ppl couldn't be as picky about their mail as their hair. NOT! haha!!!!
For fun I love to watch Movies, go to the movies, walk and play with my B, go out shopping and eating out with hubby and friends, read, and visit Basenji Forum. I also volunteer at my Church doing cleaning, greeting guest, flower beds pulled and other things. God is Good EveryDay!!!!!! -
I am a receptionist at a Country Park situated on the south downs, it's jointly owned by the local council and the forestry commission, not as exciting as some of you on here but we have our moments.
No day is the same from lost dogs and children to calling out the air ambulance or patching up the walking wounded, we never know what the day will bring. We meet people from all over the world, and my working colleagues are the best.
We have recently "twinned" with a country park in Uganda, some of their rangers have visited our park and two of our volunteers have been over to visit theirs, another trip is planned for September, I would love to go, better start saving the pennies!!

And thanks everyone for opening up and talking about this. When I made this thread I realized that not everyone would be to happy about talking of what they do for a living, I realize money is an issue and all of that but your not your job, your clothes or how much money you have in the bank, you are the love for your kids, your peers, your pets, and of course the love you should have for your self and for whatever is keeping this amazing planet still orbiting around an universe that we really know nothing of. We must also question ourselves about our consumer logic, how much do we really need and how much has the media made us think we do?
Be grateful people, for whatever you have and as little as it is. I recommend everyone to grab a copy of The Secret (the book not the movie) It might change your outlook on life and trust me, that alone can do wonders.

Such an underappreciated profession, yet so fundamental to health care. I gained a whole new respect for nurses, as my twin pregnancy was the first time I spent any length of time in a hosptial; and then with the babies being in the NICU for three weeks. I LOVED my nurses, they were the best!!
Just wanted to let you know how much I respect the awesome job you all do!
