Introducing Beegin

  • Hello forum members. I signed up to learn about basenjis as my little guy grows up. I have had Mr. B since February and he is now about 6 months old. Like a lot of others postings, he is an avid paper shreader and toilet paper thief, but insanely cute and mischevious. He reminds me of a toddler. His favorite activity (inside anyway) is holding on to the edge of the counter with his toes and watching me when I'm in the kitchen doing dishes or making dinner.

Welcome…. pictures please.... where/who did you get your B Boy from?

As for the kitchen, for mine the dishwasher is a favorite... as in how many Basenjis can the dishwasher door hold?

  • Pretty b…
If you want to work on bonding with him , get him into a gentle obedience class and start clicker training with your b.
Also, I think most b's love routine..
They like to know when they will get fed, walked and played with.
That type of structure sure works for me.
Have you considered doing Lure coursing with your pup.
They love to run and a tired b is a happy b!

    Sharron,

We are in a puppy kindergarten right now and he is doing alright. Sometimes, the treats just aren't enough motivation for him to listen to me and not want to just run and play with the other puppies. He listens much better outside of puppy class than in!

How does one get into lure coursing? I located a place that does agility work about an hour away from me but don't know of any lure coursing places nearby. I know he loves it when I bike with him though!!!! I bike, he runs, people laugh at us and think we're funny… works for everyone.

    Pat,

I got my little guy from Jerrie and Michael Timmons in Oklahoma.

I am certain that if I had a dishwasher, Beegin would investigate it. He's gotten into and sat down (when he was younger) the refrigerator a couple times before while I was unpacking groceries.

Has he or the parents been DNA tested for Fanconi? Please be sure to find out and if not, please consider having your boy tested. You can find infomation at www.basenjihealth.org

  • For lurecoursing…
Have them check out the www.asfa.org website for a schedule of coursing all over the country.

  • Welcome! :)

  • Welcome to the pack. :)

  • Hey- I saw that you are in Massachusetts. We had a meet up at a dog park in Sharon and are having another in August. Don't know if you are nearby, but would love to meet up with you and Mr. B. See the Basenjis in Boston thread…

  • Welcome to the pack - love your pictures (#4 especially :))

Not sure of the size limit, there used to be information about this but I can't find it. I typically downsize to 800 x 600 pixels, 75% quality, and that works well. Size is usually under 100 kb.

Agree with tanza, it's not good to overdo pain meds. An animal that doesn't feel the warning signal is far more likely to cause themselves harm. We want to protect them from discomfort, but at times that is absolutely the wrong thing to do.

Hi Sharon; sorry this has taken me so long to get back, I am a home health caregiver and work 12 hour shifts so time schedules are often tight. This forum is one of my pleasurable moments. Anyway….to answer your question, we got our Basenji's from a breeder in Buffalo Minnesota (female) and Minneapolis Minnesota (male). Sorry, don't remember the breeders names.
