Goodbye Simeon…

I'm in too much shock right now to cry. My mom just called me at 6am to let me know that their Basenji, Simeon has passed away. He was 9 years old and suffered heart problems over the last two days. They had no idea he had anything wrong with his heart. The combination of his bad heart and the humid air was deadly to him.

What was really tragic, is that today is a German holiday and they couldn't find a Vet locally (everything closes down for holidays in Germany)…and wound up having to use the vet we did in the town we lived in...but by then it was too late.

Rest in peace Simeon, my ambassador to Basenjidom. You may have not been perfect for the job, having bitten me so many times..but I still know that you loved me in your own way.

My heart goes out to you. It's hard when a member of your family passes on and this is no exception. Simeon looks like a sweet boy. Sorry for your loose and keep those dear memories close to your heart.

No words will take away your pain, we can only hope they give some comfort at this time. I have been through the loss of a beloved furry family member, as have most of us here, and we all understand how you feel. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks you guys…I'm so worried about my dad and Sampson, their jack russel mix. They live so far away, I wish I could do more for them to comfort them.

I am so sorry for your loss. Owning basenjis has been a rich part of my life and the time you shared and your parents shared with him were probably the best days of his life.

Well other than not liking his random agressiveness towards me…

I really miss it when I'd get out of the shower, and when I would kneel down by him, he'd roll in my hair and lick it.

I tried so hard to teach my little girl this by letting her watch Simeon and I...but she never caught on to it. ;(

I'm so sorry that sweet Simeon has passed.. our Rosco died a few months ago as well. It does get easier with time. Something that helped my family through this was looking at pictures of him. We framed some collages and put them around the house. Maybe your parents would like a tribute like that..
