  • The little un's are growing quickly. Both of the tri's are little terrors. They play hard, bite hard, and climb up the x-pen like little monkies. We had them all outside the other day to play, and they were hiding, ambushing, charging, fighting, and in general just having one heck of a wild party. They're so much fun to watch.

Now time for a confession. There's a little red/white runt, that reminds me so much of my first B, that it's uncanny. And yes, he is named after him now too. And yes, he's the one that gets "happy ears" when we come home. And he wags his little tail, and he looks like he's going to start barooing soon…He's as fiesty as they come, and his antics are hysterical. When everybody lays down to go to sleep, he'll step back from the group, play bow, take off running towards them, and body slam into the pile. Then he sleeps. He play bows all the time, and when he's ignored by his siblings he'll bite 'em on the butt. He's clearly become everybody's favorite, and I think he knows it.

ugh...I will not keep him...I will not keep him...I will not keep him...I have self control... :o :o

My family failed fostering 101, about 5 years ago. We're clearly now working on our fostering PHD, and we've done well with a lot of really excellent dogs. It's really not that hard to foster and send them on their way anymore...but, little Mowgli is going to be a challenge.

The most important rule in Rescue is: Do not keep your rescues! If you do, then you can't rescue as many. I'm going to have to keep reminding myself that on this one.

  • Awww…..*you're gonna *keep him, *you're gonna *keep him, *you're gonna *keep him ;)

  • Nice fat puppies-just what I like. And, aren't all tri's little buggers?? or, is it just me?

You know, you may be onto something. I definitely see differences between the tri-female, and all the other females.

  • yeah, a lot of long time basenji people will tell you that they are called "tris" because they are particularly "try-ing" ;)

Vegas, I don't know how you send ANY of them away!! I'd be like the lady with millions of cats…just millions of Basenjis!

Seriously, you're a gem to do all of that rescue work! Keep those pictures coming!;)

  • What sweeeeeet babies!! I would HAVE to keep the pup…

  • It's a sure fire sign that you have to keep him. :)

I'm afraid If I do decide to get another I won't have a chance to introduce them beforehand as it Will probably be a puppy I bring from the US.. I doubt there will be a problem since she will be a young puppy…

@tanza: Just an FYI, most of us start letting our pups lure practice even as young as 10 to 12 wks…. granted it is just a short straight away, but gives them some sense of the game. And usually by 7 to 8 months most all B pups can do a full course. Pat, thanks very much for that info. I trust your comments. I know Kipawa would love luring. There is a club that does luring that is about a 40 minute drive from where we are. They don't have any events planned yet - not even 'fun days'. I will keep an eye on their website. http://www.meetup.com/Tri-Cities-Dog-Coursing-AgilityTraining/

@MacPack: Congratulations to you and Zoni! I love the description of the down, I remember Topper in puppy & adult obedience class, doing the same thing. The instructor would laugh and say that "down" was supposed to be a submissive posture, but he "attacked the earth" and was definitely NOT submissive…but got the job done HIS way! Basenjis need instructors with a sense of humor! Good thing Zoni had one like that too. Anne Thanks…and yes they have a good sense of humor and love Zoni too. I wish the conformation class teacher did though, but then I'm just not going to that one for now....

Rocky yodels… like these dogs do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iTlEwTOzm0 Especially when we come home. Complete with the "lightswitch" tail flick and happy feet dance!
