• @BDawg1005:

I think he'll fit right in… I just have to figure out a better way to put the bowls down faster and further apart... They keep having spats over the dishes!

We had issues with this at first. We found that if we set one bowl down and hold the other dog's bowl RIGHT under his nose, he will follow you and his bowl and leave the first dog and bowl alone. πŸ†’
Congratulations to you and your family! He looks like a sweetie.

    That Basenji Boy rocks! πŸ˜ƒ

My better half had a great time helping out as well, she deserves a lot of the credit at the Basenj Park end.;)
Miles was amazing too! We let him run around loose in the house and we just sat and watched. Miles never got on the furniture or even looked like he wanted to. He sat, came, stay, like he knew he needed to impress his new family. After he had a bath and settled down, he found a sun spot in the kitchen and he laid down, I could see he wanted to dose off finally relaxing. As I took his picture I couldn't help but think of the relief this poor boy was feeling. That's what made this all worth it, along with meeting some new friends and being able to share the experience.:)

I thank you all for the kind words, trust me it was all good.;)

  • πŸ™‚ Hey guys! Wow, Miles is like the ultimate superstar rescue. I swear he's like a dream! I was a little worried that the crating situation would be horrendous. Hubby left at 11am today and he said that when he left, Miles was screaming like a banshee. And that when he drove by, he could hear him from the parking lot. I was worried what I'd be coming home to– poo, a tasmanian devil, the fire department? I just didn't know.

I came up the stairs with baited breath... And I heard... nothing! So then it's poo, I thought as I opened the door. But low and behold the two were just sitting in their clean crates waiting for me! WOO HOO!!

We went for a long walk. Miles showed no interest in the cat that was following us (what was HE thinking?!) but of course Lexi wanted to chase after it really badly. We came back and hubby called to remind me that he had taken video surveillance. I got our camera and began to watch what happened. I only got about 20 minutes into it, but the howling was REALLY loud! WOAH! But he started to calm down... So hopefully we more time and trust, that will subside. πŸ™‚

Give him something before you leave to keep him busy to forget you left, only give him that treat in his crate…...long lasting chew, toy filled with treats peanut butter.;)

  • He had a peanutbutter filled kong!!

  • Tonight has been good progress. I got them to both sit, lie down, and stay right next to each other. They even waited together!!

This must be alot of fun for you. How exciting and interesting! Once Miles becomes confident & secure that he is finally home, he will calm down. Hope it's soon. Sounds like he has very good manners. I'm so happy for you all! πŸ™‚

  • Congratulations Bdawg on rescuing Miles and BB, you are a good guy. I personally think rescues are the way to go. Everytime I've had rescue dogs, they are the absolute best. I'm not sure if it's that they are so grateful to be with a real family but the loyalty and love just radiates off them. Not that there aren't occasional issues but don't we all have a little baggage to be dealt with? My Shelby was a rescue that I saw on petfinder and I am still thankful I found her. Someday I hope to find her a brother basenji. It will have to be a basenji just to keep up with her. Not just her speed but her intellect. She really is a toddler in a fur suit. Good luck with your fur babies. By the way, we give Shelby a peanutbutter kong or a treat ball with treats and peanutbutter in it when she goes into the crate. Now when we get the peanutbutter out, she heads to the crate. It's too funny!:D

  • I friend shared this with me… Thought I'd share it with the group:

Once I was a lonely dog,
    Just looking for a home.
I had no place to go,
No one to call my own.

I wandered up and down the streets,
in rain in heat and snow.
I ate what ever I could find,
I was always on the go.

My skin would itch, my feet were sore,
    My body ached with pain.
And no one stopped to give a pat
Or to gently say my name.

I never saw a loving glance,
I was always on the run.
For people thought that hurting me
    was really lots of fun.

And then one day I heard a voice
    So gentle, kind and sweet,
And arms so soft reached down to me
And took me off my feet.

"No one again will hurt you
    Was whispered in my ear."
"You'll have a home to call your own
where you will know no fear"

"You will be dry, you will be warm,
    you'll have enough to eat"
"And rest assured that when you sleep,
your dreams will all be sweet".

I was afraid I must admit,
I've lived so long in fear.
    I can't remember when I let
    A human come so near.

And as she tended to my wounds
And bathed and brushed my fur
She told me bout the rescue group
And what it meant to her.

She said, "We are a circle,
    A line that never ends".
"And in the center there is you
    protected by new friends".

    "And all around you are
the ones that check the pounds,
And those that share their home
    after you've been found".

    "And all the other folk
    are searching near and far.
"To find the perfect home for you,
where you can be a star".

She said, "There is a family,
    that's waiting patiently,
and pretty soon we'll find them,
    just you wait and see".

"And then they'll join our circle
they'll help to make it grow,
so there'll be room for more like you,
who have no place to go".

    I waited very patiently,
The days they came and went.
    Today's the day I thought,
    my family will be sent.

Then just when I began to think
    It wasn't meant to be,
    there were people standing there
    just gazing down at me.

I knew them in a heart beat,
I could tell they felt it too.
They said, "We have been waiting
for a special dog like you".

Now every night I say a prayer
to all the gods that be.
"Thank you for the life I live
    and all you've given me.

But most of all protect the dogs
in the pound and on the street.
    And send a Rescue Person
to lift them off their feet".

  • Oh great - you made me cry. That is a tender and true poem. Wish I could scoop up every stray and keep 'em!

  • Very CoolπŸ†’ Thanks B.;)

  • Lexi & Miles venture out to see the frozen pond and snow that came today!

Miles & Lexi greeting our neighbor.

Meeting up with Magnus the Giant Schnauzer in the snow!!

  • Great pictures of the fur-kids! Looks like they're enjoying the snow (at least as much as a 'senji can! πŸ™‚ ).

  • Thanks for the pics.:) How'd he do in the crate today?

  • Our video surveillance showed he howled LOUDLY for 10 seconds approximately 6 minutes after I left. πŸ™‚ Improvement!! Hopefully our neighbors wake up before 7:45!!

That's awesome B! He's such a good boy.:D It should just keep getting better!

  • The kids outside today. We had snow then ice… so it was very crunchy!

  • Great video!! We had the same thing last week. It is funny to watch them step, crunch, & drop! Poor Bella would look at me like "and you want me to go potty in this"?!?! Can't say as I blame her, her bum touches the snow when she squats…

  • Awww, they are sticking together already!! πŸ™‚
