In the days before computers, I kept a book (now its all carefully entered in to special folders on the 'machine' and provides me with a complete history) - total sickness record, including jabs and innoculations (and cost of pills / treatment), of each dog. Weight at birth of puppies, ease of whelping. Onset of seasons, boys starting to react (chuddering and showing interest), date relative to onset of color of the first time the girl's tail went over. Just about every aspect of each dog is carefully logged and catalogued.
Basenji Puppy bottom problem after bowel movement
-
2 month basenji puppy, has red part of butt petruding after last bowel movement! It's staying out! Does anyone know what might cause that?

Take the pup to the Vet, immediately

Did your puppy have diarrhea? It can happen I think it’s called a prolapsed anus. If that happens there isn’t much that can be done. A vet may be able to do surgery. I would take the puppy in to get checked. Good luck!

To the vet...and let us know how is your puppy doing

It's a prolapsed rectum, and it can be fixed but the pup needs immediate vet attention.

How is the puppy. I saw one this week for the first time in all my years [hitting 50 soon!] of Basenjis. Vet attention.. but it requires lubrication and poking it back in throughout the day [as much as possible] to help it get that back to the normal position. It can be fixed and isn't a death sentence.
Let us know how he is doing!! -
My 8 yr old just had this happen. He has had diarrhea issues his entire life, but never this. It is called a prolapsed anus, and even if it resolves in its own, u need to go to vet for antibiotics and to discuss possible causes. It’s not normal, but can happen when straining.
