  • @debbi:

    Hi, everyone,

I am a member of BCOA and BRAT. I have friends on this list and decided it was time for me to join. I also was interested in seeing a new picture of Kizzie. I am so happy she is in her forever home. Best wishes to Kizzie, Piikachu, and the Williams family!

    Debbi J.

So, are you the Debbie that I first contacted from BRAT about the Fl Rescue Basenji's?

  • Debbi is the major BRAT angel..so probably the one you "talked" to in BRAT.
JoeW. I am so happy that your sharing your info and photos of these 2 lovely b's.
Thank you for opening your home and heart to these b's….

  • Sooo glad these dogs are getting the special love they deserve.

Welcome to Joe and Debbie. Glad you are here with us.

  • :)What a wonderful opportunity to open our home and our heart to such a deserving B. She is doing great. She is timid and beautiful. All the neighbors are asking about her on our walks. I do beleive her coat color and eye color are thorowbacks from the African blood in her. Do other people who have B's ever see their tails wag? She hasn't done it here yet (but hopefully will soon) but we did see her wag at BRAT on Saturday, when she was reunited with her beautiful sister Bibi. (Bibi is in a couple of the pictures I am attaching). I understand she also found a forever home. There are lots of B's at BRAT in Seminole still waiting for their new humans!

    Hi, Joe and Trish,

Yes, I am the Debbi that you first contacted at BRAT. Working hand in hand along with Pam in Florida, she and I have placed more than 30 basenjis from the Wimauma Pack. We are now starting to place the young adults. In addition, we have one more available 4 month old male pup in Florida and a male/female pair from the same litter that we have moved to Maryland so that a transport to their eventual adoptive family is easier.

BTW, I have an 8 year brindle boy, Basil, and a 7 year old tri girl, Trinity. I've learned over the years that with basenjis, you can't have just one.

    Debbi J.

  • Hi Joe and Trish, Welcome!
We are over in Tampa and have a weekly basenji meet-up, sometimes Kizzie's brother Kongo (was Afrika) joins us and we would love to meet up with you and the kids when you are ready for an outing. We sometimes take a road trip to Crest Lake Park in Clearwater, that might be a good central location! I meet Kizzie when she was at the shelter, what a gorgeous girl, so happy that she has a great forever home!

  • Wow, the eyes are so striking it's scary.

  • Such striking eyes

  • Welcome to the forum! And please keep us updated - and send lots of pics on their progress…

Kizzy's eyes are mesmerizing and complements her darker color very well... I think she got me hypnotized - I can't stop staring at those beautiful eyes! :p:p:p:D

  • Oh, the photo is wonderful…what a striking b and the eye are something!!!
Thanks for opening your home and hearts to these b's who needed you so.

  • Kizzie is settling in nicely. She is doing great with Pikachu and has fallen for our cat "Silver". Planning on going to the Tampa dog park tomorrow (if we don't get rained out). :)

  • I love the colour of Kizzie, it's so rich. Glad she's settled with you, Pikachu and Silver.

  • We met Kizzy, Pikachu and you guys this morning at the West Park in Tampa - it was wonderful to see Kizzy - her eyes and coat color create such a beautiful striking contrast. Welcome to the dog park, we hope to see you more Sundays. Pikachu is such a cute little girl, it was nice to see how both of them got along well with all the other B's. Kizzy and Pikachu are going to fit in beautifully with the rest of the pack.

  • Great to meet everyone today! The B's are worn out and sleeping.:)

  • Great to meet you too, we do have a nice group of "Sunday Senjis" at West park and your girls fit perfectly. Good to meet John too, with Flash, another Wimauma pup. The dogs seem to have a nice time even in this brutal heat, are much more lively when it is cooler (aren't we all).

  • Lovely to see your pictures (2 members for one look huh?) I love to see them getting on so well with each other - I so envy your dog parks.

  • I love to hear and see dog park pictures, especially when it's a basenji I have helped find her forever family. Kizzie is such a gorgeous girl. I really love her eyes!

    Debbi j.

  • Good pictures, Triciaw - we really do have a nice time at the dog park, and your girls make a wonderful addition. Hope to see you as many Sundays as possible.

  • Kongo (Afrika) plans to come next Sunday, it will be fun if he and Kizzie get to see each other.

And we also had Flash, one of Kenyatta's pups, bottle fed from birth. He is a very cool boy and had a blast playing with a b-mix, Coco.

So we have several of the Wimauma pups that come from time to time, Butler (Batboy), Kongo, Kizzie, Flash and don't forget Guppy!

Nice to get a every changing supply of new basenjis in our Sunday-Senji group. Basenjis have such nice humans, too!

  • the other animals needed some face time ;)
The first picture is of a "Serval" and no I don't own him, however they are used in the breeding program for my other cats which are "Savannahs". I beleive my cat "Silver" is able to better relate to Kizzie as they are both a bit wild! With Silver is "Zahara". I also have another cat "Taz" for the next post.

Agreeing ... we'll celebrate and enjoy Rebel, nevermind the breeder. Once here, Rebel is family. :)

@mauigirl: Okay I actually went and found the e-mail I sent in to order the collar. The collars are from Northwind Catalog. Their medium collar is adjustable from 10" to 16" On the first collar I ordered I requested that it be 3" smaller than the medium size (Zip, girl), and the second I ordered I asked it to be 2" smaller (Riley, boy, bigger). In hindsight the medium as is would have been fine. On both of our dogs the collars are adjusted to just about as big as they can go so 13" on Zip and 14" on Riley (his is snugger going over his head but still loose around his neck). And the allowance looks to be 3" (that extra loop in a martingale that make it instantaneously adjustable) Sorry that took me so long, I ended up staying at work til 1am that night! Thank you very, very much !! It's past midnight now so I'll check it in the morning. Greetz UPDATE : Yes, they are the right size !:D

@maxamali: Long story short I am electing to go without surgery and treat with anti-inflammatory medicine as well as a joint supplement. For a joint supplement, I can highly recommend (from personal experience with our previous Basenji, Maxx), Missing Link Plus. It's expensive at places like Petco and PetsMart, but you can find it much cheaper by doing an Internet search.

Giza swam in the Atlantic once when we were out walkin' at low tide and the tile came in. The Atlantic in Canada is pretty cold!

Yep, we do agree on most things (bossy? or boss?)(both I think-it has something to do with me being a control freak-I like orderly fashion). True there are some dogs/bitches that will just not get along EVER. If I do leave with dogs that typically don't get along-grouch,snarl,sneer,etc.-I'm sorry-but they're separated. Either in separate rooms or crates. If you can't get along when I'm here, then chances are you won't when I'm not!! I did train other people and their dogs (notice I put people first) but as you say-meager. Now I just train my own, the occasional consult and focus on grooming, and the B's. I would love to make a living with just dogs, but, alas, that is really hard to do!
