I leave the radio on for EL D while I'm gone at work – not because it calms him down but because I don't want him going bonkers because he's hearing the squirrels making noise outside 🙂 He generally sleeps while I'm gone.

And please take off that choke chain when he is not on a leash…...

The first thing I thought of when looking at those doggie clothes was the scene in the beginning of 101 Dalmations where Pongo is watching the various pairs of dogs and their humans walking along. I was amused by that association. I don't think any of the dogs in that scene had clothes on, but they very well could have - particularly the poodle. If there is such thing as a doggie runway strut she had it down pat.

If a pill is bitter, I coat it with butter then put it in cream cheese. If the dog is getting suspicious, I put the cream cheese in some canned dog food (a rare treat) and give each dog a bite, then the pill covered with he dog food in round 2. Once they taste a bitter pill, they will never eat whatever the pill was in again!

I also have a jumper. The trainer I worked with did the same thing mentioned in jys1011's post. Turn away - even if you have to do it 20 times. They get no attention until they're calm. Rosie can be pretty persistent, but it works. Basically, no dog should get attention when they're over-excited (easier to say than practice - sometimes I just don't have the time to wait them out).

Oh I hear that…. "no time to wait them out" 😃

I'm up in the Northeast & it cost me about $400 with meds & follow up visits for our spay & neuter. I don't blame you for looking for a better option even if it means a longer drive. I think it's better to be safe then sorry!

Will you visit Oba/Sheba again in the next 3weeks? I think it would make for a good adjustment once she comes home permanently. Baroo can also spend some time getting to know her better she gets home.

She certainly is a real beauty 🙂 I can see why you want her so badly! I'm glad her foster mom was able to hang on to her a little while longer.

I use Nutro Natural Choice for sensitive stomachs. I think it is Chicken, Oatmeal and Rice. I had taken them off it and found their coats didn't have the same sheen and were kind of rough. It does depend on your dog though, I haven't had any problems with it either upsetting their stomachs.

I just came back from (a different) vet and guess what?, Cairo's heart murmer has disappeared. i thought of Baroo, and wondered if you may like to know that this vet believes heart murmers in Basenji's can come and go, like with dogs in general. Apparently, sometimes the heart valve positioning creates the murmer-rush noise, but that it is temporary and so doesn't reflect a cardio problem. Hope that his is so with Baroo too. Good luck.

OK, I take it all back, we have decided to keep Baroo. He deserves another chance, and a fair one, so I'm going to commit to training him and walking him and take it from there. I will be starting another post, and don't want to repost everything here, so if you want to know more see the other post. I have just decided he is worth a second chance.

I think neutering him will do the trick. Max never mounted anyone or anything after he was neutered 🙂 Tyler, the male that I have now, was used by a backyard breeder for breeding. He was neutered at the SoCal Basenji Rescue–I think he was about 4 or 5 when that was done. I have him and his daughter (who was spayed), and I haven't seen Tyler do any mounting since I've had them (about 6 months now).

The first one is the toughest. Consider getting another one. I know it sounds crazy, but it really does make life easier. They like their own kind.

Very true, ours was like any only child - constantly need to be entertained or he would cause trouble- the second dog comes along everything changes.

His focus was the other dog- what's she getting that I'm not, then the constant playing with each other like little maniacs, wearing each other out.
