  • Well I've had my male 7 months the 3rd of Oct and here has been the differences at our house.
Female not crazy about people comming into house she does not know friendly just makes sure they are good before becomming friends.
Male I love everyone just come on in but stop and love me first.

Female eats dog food not crazy about anything else you give her.
Male well I think he would eat bugs if gave them to him loves food.

Female she talks as a rule once a day maybe twice.
Male he talks all day ten times or more everyday.

    Female never get's into anything.
Male he has ate four shirt's with big holes his teeth are good. Ate my daughter's cell and one pair of glasses that is just as of today but the day is not over.

Female sleeps under blankets and curls up right beside you.
Male sleeps on top of blankets and takes his space and all he can get one way or the other.

Female plays withs toys some but not all time.
Male plays with toys all of the time loves his toys and any he can steal and play with also.

I know I have a lot more to learn and see in the month's and year's to come but I have sure seen some things in this short time. Love them both would never change a thing about either one of them each are there own Basenji and that is the great thing.

  • Thanks for sharing the comparison chart - it gives quite the picture of your two b's.

I am looking around my living room right now and checking out what would be moved up or away with a new basenji in the house. We will have such a stark looking place! :)

  • My daughter and I forgot a couple more things.

Female go into kennel and be so very good.
Male bad word is(hates) the kennel cry and go on forever.

Female not near as loving sit on your lap and sleep but sleeps.
Male love bunny love me, love me all time.

Female we can leave alone she really don't like it but no problem.
Male he go's crazy when you leave him alone.

Female in back yard stay's with you.
Male in back yard he is running and looking.

Just some more about my two B's. I must say it has been lots of fun most of the time
they are not like any other dog I have ever had in my life. I do tell people when they see them they say I love them all about the bad long before we get to the good. Took male to vet yesterday man looked at him and said I might like one of those dogs my first words were they are a hound and do not always listen to what you say. The man said well I do not want one them that sounds just like my wife.

  • The females I've had sleep under the covers, the males never (unless it's really, really cold and the power is out).

My female is starving all the time and will eat just about anything. My boyz, not so much. Infact, Digital used to often skip meals. (He got an appetite around 10 years old I think. That may or may not have something to do with him getting neutered.)

My female is very cuddily. Boyz, like to sit next to me, but not in my lap.

Female almost never talks. Will only yodel for my husband. Jet the tri-ing will yodel a little less than once a day. Sometimes for hubby, sometimes for food being served. Diggie will talk on request. Any day, any time, any where.

Zest likes her crate. Jet loves his xpen and will sometimes go in Z's crate. Digital is never crated in the house. He, even at 10 months, has never destroyed anything belonging to humans in the house.

Yes, we also have a Malinois. She thinks the sun rises and sets on my husband. I tell people it's nice for hubby to have a female in the house that thinks that. :p

  • I think that is more individual than male/female. LOL you could insert Arwen and Cara into nearly every one of those… they are just utterly different creatures. Your boy has found a great home. LOL on your daughter's stuff... the basenjis taught her to put her stuff up after it ate her teeth retainer and we made her pay for the $150 replacement. (We had replaced her glasses and shoes but said that was it.)

both love people anyone can come in and take anything they want lol. Any repairman has to watch his tool box because zoey is a thief and tries to take anything she wants.

  • :( Cara ate a grand daddy long legs. I know because i saw the legs sticking out her mouth. I am considering a basket muzzle til she gets over the bug obsession… or getting lime to lime outside my fence and try to get the bugs out of my yard. I don't know what to do. Although she was hopping straight up and down in the air following what I HOPE was a grasshopper the other evening. It was cute but since I couldn't be SURE what it was, I had to take her in. Sigh.
