• They make me so happy

  • First Basenji's

I think Cara's markings are super distinctive, especially the black accents at the base of each ear. She's one of a kind!

  • LOL she actually looks like several of the florida group especially 2 of her littler mates. I just adore her.

  • Hello everyone. This is my first post to the forum. Like Cara, my pup Dakota is one of the Wimauma super-sized rescues. He has floppy ears, is almost 20 inches tall and weighs 35 pounds. Dakota was born February 24, 2010 and is 8 months old. I think he's still growing. The kids in the neighborhood call him "Snoopy" because he has a really long nose and big long floppy ears. They think it's cool that "Snoopy" has a curly tail. If Dakota's ears stand up they're going to be really disappointed. ๐Ÿ™‚

Welcome to the Forum. Dakota is beautiful! Those floppy ears will probably stay that way since he 8 months already. His coloring is really nice, and kudos to you for adopting one of the Wimauma dogs - they have been able to place lots of them, and everyone is very happy with their "wild" B's. Best of luck to you, owning a basenji is a very unique dog ownership - really not an ownership, more of a partnership with your dog. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  • Welcome to the forum,Dakota is gorgeous.
I look foward to hearing more about him.

  • Well Cara's ears were up most the time last month, this month down a lot. BUT they are getting harder so I still hold out hope they will make it up for good, lol. Nearly all the adults' ears are erect, so not sure what has happened with some of our kids.

  • Its very interesting to see these results of the Wimauma 'mix-up'. They are lovely and most unusual. I'm so pleased that they have now got such lovely homes.

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome. I placed a blog about Dakota and how he came to be a part of our family at

This is wonderful forum. I enjoy reading all the posts!

  • I want the first clearโ€ฆ it's her bug-eyed look, esp if I am about to throw her toy.
No, she isn't at all spoiled... she just liked ME to hold the bone. LOL and the rare both ears up.. and the "dwarf Arwen" pic.

    All Clickables:

  • I don't like having my picture taken either. LOL

  • Poor Arwen:

Cara has always hung her head out of the covers, now she has Arwen doing it:

  • Debra, in my eyes, they are both beautiful! The head out of the covers picture is priceless. I am a total animal lover, and I find that there is often such beauty in animals that are not 'breed perfect'. They somehow make up for it in other, very special ways.

  • TY, I quite adore them. Arwen certainly was looks wise fine to show, but not with her PPM for breeding, so we didn't. Cara is Cara. And I love every hair on her body. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Absolutely love the pictures! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for sharingโ€ฆ. they are both endearing. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I used to know someone with a large Avongara dog. I used to call him her "industrial strength" basenji. Ya know, for larger hunting and such.

I find many of the colors on the Wimauma basenjis striking. I love that dark red/white one with green eyes. Just striking.

  • ROFLMAO "industrial strenght"! That's wonderful. Cara is so huge, lol. I mean, I want like a 17 to 19 pound basenji one day. Arwen is about 25 pounds, not exactly a delicate flower. Cara is payback for me thinking Arwen was so huge. Fortunately she is very very non-alpha, so hopefully her bigger size won't present issues between them.

Yeah I think a lot of the Wimauma's are striking. I am a red/white person, then b/w, and brindle. Never cared for the coloring of tris, but am coming to appreciate the tris also.

I have also accepted those dear defective ears are never going to be truly upright. She can raise them and move them like antennae โ€ฆ one up, both up, alternate up. On the other hand, they are incredibly soft so if they don't stand up, well, they are wonderful to rub ๐Ÿ™‚
