Ono is a Hawaiian word, used to describe something that is 'the best' AND happens to be very basenji appropriate :) We hesitated naming her something that so strongly resembled 'no' but we don't use 'no' very much in our training, we say 'hey' to get their attention and then give them another cue to follow when we are redirecting their behaviour. The pups love the huge costco bed, and I love the great cedar smell :)

I found that when I lived without dogs for several years, I was allergic when a dog licked me, or if it's hair was a little dirty. But then after being around dogs a lot more, between having my own, and working with lot of others, that allergy has completely subsided. I definitely think the body is able to work thru some mild allergies with exposure.

This probably won't help, but Deke is really short for Zindeku it means "protective charm" in swahili. Thats not his registered name. His name describes his personallity now, but not when he was a puppy. He grew into it.
