Photos from the II

Basenji Training
  • More like if they heard him growing in the paddock, they should have NOT run him… at all. Clearly that was a sign that he was not going to be focused on the Lure.....

And in AKC or ASFA, muzzles are not required so an owner doesn't have to use one.

  • Well, I sure hope they see what is so obvious..I am sorry this happened to him..
It doesn't change the outcome, I guess, but what is right is right..

  • Yikes. Were there 3 FCh on Sunday? Because if so that yellow dog ran with Riley and Zuri I think.

  • The pictures tell the story. These pictures might be good for the biting dog's owner to see. Perhaps they might then take using a muzzle seriously.

  • Looking at the pics from the Basenji finals on Saturday that wasn't the only dog caught being bad on film.

Hopefully, ASFA will accept the photos as evidence when considering your complaint.

  • I hope it helps, we will see, I don't think he will have a problem being reinstated, just hate to have that on his record. I did not look at the finals, there was one dismissed there too. That is after I spoke to the judges about their DQ's or those probably would have been Dq's too.

Yes, he ran with Riley and Zuri on Sun and is on film Sunday biting Zuri in the back. The owner was clueless, the open dog Sat forfeited rather than run with him and take a chance at getting hurt.

  • The dog in the finals pics on Saturday was doing the same thing as the tri but was muzzled.

  • Sure enough is, two reds running

  • Too bad LisaS you talked to the judges to the point that they did not DQ the red dog from the finals - as she twice went after the competition - hardly what I call "bumping". I am sorry they DQ'd Xander when it is so obvious he was not at fault. Please keep us posted re: what ASFA does. It would be great if they remove it from his record. Good luck.

LisaV and Pat - I heard an Az dog was dimissed from your BCONC trials (not sure AKC or ASFA) this past weekend. Any idea who it was. I would like to know who to avoid if I decide to start running again. Private replies are fine. Thanks.

    Vaporizer Information

  • There were two trials that day, one ASFA and one AKC, because we were doing the puppy match at the same time, I didn't watch the trials, but will see if I can find out for you. However I think he uses a whistle to try and recall his dogs at the end of a run… which doesn't work and he also has a daughter that shows JRS?

@eeeefarm - Totally agree with both of you, while I don't do the "restrain the pup", but if it works great and in a pinch it does work for me if really needed. When we have pups (babies) and Mom is tired of them and puts herself in a position that they can't reach her, they turn to the next adult in the house.... same thing will happen if they get over excited and yes, I have seen Basenji Moms, pin the pup to the ground and/or other adults in the home.... so it is something that a pup understands. Walking away works for me... or I try to change up the "game" by turning to working their minds and getting them to think about other things. In the Basenji Breed this is another way of teaching them that the prior behavior is not acceptable. They learn pretty quickly. Thanks for posting this thread eeeefarm... well needed...

@klangill I asked in the Facebook San Diego (CA) Basenji Meetup group about trainers. A member recommended Crewsn K9 Academy. https://www.crewsnk9academy.com/ I posted early in this thread about checking with the local breed club, South Coast Basenji Fanciers, for advice.

Sounds like you take good care of him. Standard Process is good stuff. I assume your Doc does Nutritional response testing via kinseology(sp)? If yes, then s/he can easily muscle test if Cosamine would be good for him in addition to his SP supplement. Good luck. Host And Design
