What a shot this is!Thank you. That dog was crazy… haha.. a really nice fit with Tillo, they did exactly the same things on the same time.
-
Great pictures as always, love to see them. Especially the one where the two dogs are "dancing." Wouldn't worry about Tillo growling - maybe he just doesn't care for the show circuit - much more fun running all over the place when you guys take him here and there - keep sharing those pictures! The last picture is also delightful.
-
I agree, love them all but especially the dancing dogs and the leaping lovers!
-
sounds like you had a great time, I also love the pic with the other crazy dog!! you had your camera there right on time!!
allthough an unfortunate showday for you who were the other basenjis? can you please send me the results? ( per email if you do not want to put it here ) and where was that show?
it is a real shame that tillo growles at the judges, have you considered some showtraining to get him used to other people toutching him in these circumstances? -
Great photos… sorry to hear that Tillo growled again... can you figure out the "trigger"? What he might be objecting to that starts the growling? I know that you have worked hard on the behavior in the past...
Who was the Tri that you showed?
-
I love the pics, perhaps Tillo worked out that if he growled he got to go to the beach quicker
I love the pic where all those people are walking behing him, it looks like King Tillo has lots of followers -
Really cool pics from the beach! But there were a lot of people
Won't you come to the german speciality this year?
It will be in Huenstetten (where our racetrack is ) in september.
Not so far away from Trechtingshausen. -

It was the clubmatch in Rotterdam. The tri was BOB and one of her red girls was BOS.. (I haven't got the catalogue.. so I don't know exactly who was who)
And we do have show training. Tillo does great there. He also has to be touched etc for obedience, he does wonderful there too. He knows the people, they are allowed to touch him. Not some weird stranger  (and that also depends on who the stranger is..)

The tri is African Mystery's Dibo Kinyago (Apu Guy Noir x African Mystery's Almazi Haiba).
And the trigger.. Tillo just doesn't agree that someone touches him when he doesn't feel like it.. And of course.. he had/has succes with it, because he can leave the ring if he growls..

Yes, they are quite smart about that… (get to leave the ring)... brats that they are!!!

Superb Tillo pics, and I too love the dancing picture!
So this one time growling incident ruins his showing career? How is that? Do judges all call each other and talk about it, or is it that he could possibly do it again, or maybe do worse? Sorry if the answer is totally obvious, but I love to know details.

Tillo has growled before, over 1.5 year ago. After that we spend a lot of time training and he did great. Last november he growled at a big show. Again we put more energy in show training, and again he did great. Last week's show was only a small local show, to practice/see what he would do. But well.. he growled again. I pay 50+ euro per show, that's just too much money to pay when I don't know if Tillo will have his day or not. And besides that.. If Tillo doesn't like it.. I'm not going to force him just because I like to have that last point for his championship.. I don't want to make him unhappy and maybe even learn him to growl at people when they touch him..
I have already paid for a big show that's in two weeks. I think I will go, but I don't know if I will show Tillo..
I hope this answers your question

I think Tillo knows what he's doing when he growls - after all he has wonderful fun away from the show ring!!!

I don't know where to delete this post.
Didn't check my profile messages before -
Janneke,
I feel your pain… My Saba does this, and it certainly didnt take him long to work out how to get out of the ring and away from the 'nasty judge', who wants to touch him :-(. Unfortunately he won both the battle and the war .
And they say they are dumb... In your dreams ...

Janneke, thanks for your comments. Your answers totally help me make sense of your situation, and what Tillo is doing. I would be the same as you - the human might want the dog to get their points, but is it the best for the dog? In your situation, I certainly agree with your train of thought. I am a big Tillo fan, so naturally want him to do as well as he can in any show, but I can see how his behaviour could lead to worse things down the road if he learns that he can growl and get no reprimand for it. You are doing the best thing.
