  • The wait is nearly over - can't wait to see the new puppy pics! Good and happy thoughts to Ochre - bet she is also ready to have it done!

  • Now the whelping box is ready - (if she approves!) Ochre may 'get on with it'.

'So much for the 2 pieces of advice Ive had… 1) Most B girls go around day 60..., and 2) Most B girls with largish litters usually go early... YEAH right !!! Ochre obviously listened to both of those, and thought, "I will teach you Mum, for getting your hopes up far too early" '

Never believe all you've been told!!!!!

I think you've got us all anxious - I click on every day hoping for the good news! (and photos!)

  • Come on Ochre…

  • Still waiting, waiting, waiting…

BUT... Things might just be starting, although Im REALLY trying NOT to get my hopes up ...

She woke me this am with a bit of scratching around in the bedroom. She is VERY sooky, and watches my EVERY move... She only picked at breakfast, BUT ate all her lunch, (its 5.45pm here at the moment)...

She usually lies in front of the heater, but today all she has done is sleep VERY deeply, and has been on my chair all day, snoring her head off, happy to have lots of belly rubs, something she doesnt really like at all, she is very aloof !!!... Im hoping this might be the beginnings of stage 1 of the labour... Her tummy is as tight as a board today as well... I can feel lots of puppy playtime. We have taken pics of her, (and she was DISGUSTED, I can assure you ;)... Will put pics up in a few days, cos I cant do it, and Mr Saba is working tons of shifts :o

Will update as soon as things get going :)...

  • It sounds like she is close now!! So exciting, good luck with everything!! :D

  • Well finally Ochre has had her little babies :D:D:D

Just as the x-ray said, she has had 6 gorgeous bubbies, 2 boys, 4 girls all red/white… Mum and babies doing very well. They are all nicely marked, weights between 197-256 grams... Delivered between 11.15pm, our time, and 3.15am, so she has done a great job popping them out :)...

Im proud as punch, our first Langarni litter, even if it did seem to take so very long to finally get here ;)...

Off to catch some zzzzzzzzzz, with one eye, and both ears open too :)

  • Yeay!!! Congrats!! Well done Ochre!!! (and humans :D)

  • Well Done!!!!! Ochre (and I agree of course the humans to)…. nice group, 4 girls and 2 boys... Nice size (weight) range. Sounds like all when well!

  • Congrats on the safe arrival of the babies:D

That would be my ideal size and sexes for my next litter but who knows!!

    Enjoy your zzzzzz's

  • Hooray and congratulations to Ochre and of course yourselves. How nice to have mostly girls.

  • Congratulations, can't wait to see pics.

  • Well done Ochre (and family!)! Once you have caught a few zzzz's, please do take some pictures as we are waiting with baited breath to see them!

  • Wonderful news! We will anxiously await the pictures I'm sure you'll be posting soon as you and Ochre have had a rest. Good on your girl.

  • Excellent news - congrats! Can't wait to see the pics once you get caught up on sleep and everything. Congrats again!!! Yay Ochre!

  • Awesome. they are finally here ,and it sounds like they are doing wonderful..good job Ochre and humans too..now we want pictures..please?

  • Wonderful! Congratulations!!! :D
Finally…. And everbody happy and healthy - perfect :o :)

  • Thank you everyone for the congrats… Im soooo glad that is all over, I can tell you :)

Ochre has settled into motherhood so well, and all the bubbies are doing very well.

I hope to have some pics here in the next day or so, but at the moment all we have had time to do, is some at our website www.langarni-rajacadoo.com on the litters page… Should be up soon, I hope :)

  • Congrats!!!!!

She did great!!! (and you too :D )

  • Jennie, they look lovely..I just saw your pictures online..congrats again…oh, how I wish I was closer, much closer...

  • Oh goodness - are those ever adorable pups! I just love those little pink noses. Well done, Ochre. You deserve lots of praise for producing such beautiful puppies.

@timothyhanselman If on FB, you may want to join BASENJIS in need: Golden Opportunity. There are some adults looking for homes right now. https://www.facebook.com/groups/375245789899780 And as one of the posts advises: "Stay patient. A lot of inexperienced people are buying puppies they are ill prepared for, from greeders who do not take their basenjis back. I suspect in the next 6-8 months we might see/learn of an influx of basenjis needing homes." Alas....

@Kipawa: I think most people will agree that neutering a dog does not spoil their spirit or temperament. More often, spaying or neutering results in a more calm, balanced animal. I agree, but we have lots of people on the Forum from over the "pond" and they have most different ideas about spay/neuter, different culture, different ideas…. and that is their right.... sometimes we all will need to agree to disagree..

Everyone pretty much already covered what I was going to say :) I spoke with Toni before I got my boy because I am from Maryland. I ended up going with a breeder in Florida because at the time, that's where I was living. If I were to get another basenji pup though, I would definitely go to Toni. She was so great at answering any/all of my questions & also was very forthcoming about information regarding her dogs & her home. She offered, more than once, for me to come see her dogs while I was back in Maryland for vacation last winter.

Thank you guys so much for the information. I will definately write it as you said. Maybe he will then stop being so ugly. I know that there is no way he will let me or anyone that knows me have her. All I know is I paid him back for the dog, paid to fly it to them and now I get to be rimmed out on the phone, emails, etc. I just love hearing what an irresponsible breeder I am and how much I abused the dog. It just makes me fighting mad to be accused of such things. I love my dogs so much and they live better than I do it seems… Thanks again, you guys are the best.
