Hopefully Babies for Langarni Basenjis.

Breeder Talk
  • Thanks Ivoss, I think I will go and find a calculator… My maths has never been any good :o...

Basenjimamma, last night Kylie said she thought she would go overnight, but so far, I havent heard from Kylie, so I dont know where she is at... I did text her, but still waiting for a reply :)...

Yep I think you nearly need to be a millionaire to get dogs shipped around the world ;).

  • Saba, just want to see how your girl is doing…thinking about y'all down under.

  • Thank you, for enquiring, Basenjimamma…

Ochre is doing well. She was 6 weeks yesterday and she is just beginning to pop out :). The poor thing really has a pregnant bladder, always asking to go out, especially at night :)...

Im starting to get nervous, but excited as well... Just feeling a bit alone, cos Mr Saba will be on night duty when she is due, and he is my voice of reason :D. I tend to be a bit panicky, wanting to rush off to the Vets, he can usually talk sense to me :D... Im sure she will be fine. Kylie's dogs seem to come from long lines of free whelpers, so that is reassuring !!!

If I get a chance I will put up pics of the preggy tummy, in the next few days ;)

  • Glad to hear that she is doing fine..how many weeks do they go?
Yes, I would love pictures of preggy tummy, too cute.

I saw the pictures of Kylies two litters…adorable..still yearning for one..lol.

  • They have a 9 week gestation, and just writing that, made my heart skip a beat !!! Im getting sooooooooooo nervous…

Mr Saba is off work tomorrow, so I will try to get him to put pic up then...

I got those pics too, last night. I just love looking at them. Having always been a black/white lover, then red/white, then tri, then brindle, I keep looking at the pic of the tri boy with the big white collar... I m...u...s...t... b...e s...t...r...o...n...g... :D.

I doubt I will get a tri with Ochre, but for some reason I have changed my idea, and I am really hoping/praying for a tri boy ;)

  • Such an exciting time for you all. I hope to see wonderful photos soon.

  • You can do it..be strong Jennie…I can't wait to here of Ochre and see pictures too.

  • Im one minute excited, the next scared witless ;)…

Mr Saba is off work today, and he has just one to buy all the stuff to make the whelping box, it is now a reality... Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;)

  • Whelping box square is now done… Just have to put the pig rails in, put the waterproof base on, cut out the door, and its all done... Yaaaaaaaaay :D

  • It is moving along nicely..so exciting.!!!

LOL and if your bitch is like any of mine, that is the last place she will want to have her babies!…. Favorite choice of mine was under the bed or in a cabinet behind the pots and pans!

  • Oh Tanza you just bought back some stressful memories for me ;)

Our very first litter of ACD's, we had the whelping box all set up in our bedroom. She was doing everything really well, when suddenly she decided, (at the very last moment I might add ), to jump up on the totally unprotected bed, and out pops number 1… Thank you Dallie, really appreciate that ...

Eventually get Mum and bub all settled in the whelping box, when once again, she decided at the very last minute, to have puppy number 2, on the bed in the spare room .

This went on like this for all 11 pups, all the beds were completely stripped and washed, and there was an awful lot of cleaning to do, to get the house all spic and span again :)... She was incredible, the way she just found any spot she wanted, then popped them out, cleaned them, I put them back into the whelping box, and then she was fine, UNTIL the next pup was ready to make an appearance :):):)...

    OCHRE WILL NOT DO THIS...

  • Exactly Saba…. that is why all of our beds have water proof fitted mattress covers!...

  • Ahhhhh but Ochre wont be able to get to ANY beds ;). Our beds are on the 2nd floor, with a baby gate stopping anyone from getting upstairs :D…

You are under estimating the will of a Basenji :D

  • You are under estimating the will of a Basenjis

the will of a pregnant basenji at that….;);):):):D:D

  • Can you post a picture of her while pregnant? I'm just wondering "how" pregnant a trim basenji usually gets.

    LOL, really pregnant!

  • @tanza:

    No No NO…

It cant happen, it wont happen, will it ??? Surely she wont be able to scale a baby gate, that she cant get over whilst not pregnant :eek: Please dont tell me she might !!! I already am scared witless, I dont want to have to worry about her trying to get over the gate as well ;););)

I will get Mr Saba to help me put up a pic of her, today… She is generally such a beautiful slim, trim, fine little lady, and now she looks like a blimp :D ;)...

I had to laugh at her last night... I was taking her outside for one of a number of wee's she's been doing lately, when she spotted a wallaby... Well off she went to chase it, (on a lead I might add...). Absolutely no co-odination, nor speed, and the wallaby was long gone, by the time she got to where it was... I did laugh at her, Im sure even fat me could have gotten to it faster than she does at the moment :p... Bless her...

One breeder from San Diego (Rancho Penasquitos) retired from their day jobs and moved to Texas; Bob & Terry Reed of Illusion Basenjis. Another San Diego breeder (Spring Valley) passed away almost 2 years ago; Doug Joy of Basenjis of Dune. Not all reputable breeders are visible on the BCOA website. Some don't want their kennels named because they do not breed very often. You should contact the breeder liaison via email for more breeders in California and other nearby states. The local breed club for southern California is The South Coast Basenji Fanciers. They can help you find a local breeder. The quickest way to get in touch with them if through their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SoCalBasenjiFanciers Northern California also has a breed club that you can contact, BCONC. Their Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/norcalbasenjis

Thank you for the replies. Yes, either a total scam or just irresponsible, deceptive and lying individuals trying to make a buck. I am so glad I found this forum. Federico

It depends on the cat just as much as it depends on the dog. Does your cat run "prey-like" when frightened? I have 2 cats that have lived with 3 different basenjis. My male cat and my first basenji were pals and often cuddled together. They would wrestle and when the dog got too unruly he'd (the cat) nip him to keep him in line. My female cat ran every time she saw my dog. She was fun to chase and like most basenjis: "thing move, I chase thing!" Cody never ever hurt them and recognized that they were part of his "pack" (for lack of a better term). Cat outside? FORGET IT! He never caught one but boy did he try! My cats no longer live with my dogs (I moved and the cats stayed with my parents) and I know my female cat is much happier. Elliot my 3yr old is OK with my cats but Morgan my 1yr old chases them. Neither try to hurt them but the stress of being chased is a lot for a 15 year old cat to handle. [image: 1469113808168-1003649_10151420270322531_1939276400_n.jpg]

@Kipawa: I think most people will agree that neutering a dog does not spoil their spirit or temperament. More often, spaying or neutering results in a more calm, balanced animal. I agree, but we have lots of people on the Forum from over the "pond" and they have most different ideas about spay/neuter, different culture, different ideas…. and that is their right.... sometimes we all will need to agree to disagree..

@agilebasenji: So Breeder A said Breeder B didn't test? Personally, I'd do some homework before I'd believe what Breeder A said about Breeder B. Maybe it's true, and if it is SHAME on Breeder B! But I've learned that just because 2 people breed basenjis, doesn't mean they like each other. (And just for the record, I have no idea who Breeder A and Breeder B are.) Exactly…. and it is easy enough to check on the OFA site or Sally's pedigree site (of course that is not updated until OFA site is updated). But never go on what "he said/she said"... at least I don't... but there has been much discussion on other lists about well know breeder not testing or doing a questionable breeding with tested dogs... all pretty easily documented on the OFA site. So in some cases could be "he said/she said" with no truth to the statements..... as said, best and the responsible thing to do is check out your facts.
