Africa re bringing b's back

Safely reached Kinshasa. One piece of luggage did not and I am now
living with two pairs of clothes, one purchased at the market in
Basankusu. Our flight to Basankusu was exiting at one point when we
flew through a storm. We were going up and down. We stayed at a
hotel (not four star) with indoor toilet but no running water and
lights at night for only two hours. The dogs in Basankusu are
European influenced, but we found a beautiful red/white basenji
bitch living just across the street from our hotel. If we don't get
dogs up at the Lomako we will try to purchase her. Our trip of the
river Maringa and Lomako was just fabulous. We had no trouble
getting up the river and perfect weather (sunny). The dogs along the
Maringa have a mix of European and basenji. Some are very basenji
but lack white or have very little. The people along the Maringa are
fishing people. When we turned into the Lomako river we started
seeing dogs with white color pattern and very basenji like. These
occurred in the hunting villages. We have a local out looking in the
area around Lingunda for dogs and letting people know of our
interest. We are now in the Lomako reserve for 4 days and will be
possibly staying 3 days in Lingunda so we can make forays into
villages to the south to see dogs and possibly pickup puppies or
yearlings. Did I mention how small the dogs are along the Maringa
and Lomako. Just like the first basenjis imported by O. Burns. Lisa,
Bryan and Laurie are all safe. Lisa has been tagged with a GPS
collar. We don't have dogs yet so we can still use it to track her
when she is chasing butterflies.James E Johannes

Will be nice if they can bring back a few like the Basandusu b shown in photo.Well the rest were all puppies mostly and really hard to tell what they will look like all grown up.. that was a great picture of an adult.. and by the looks, I would guess a male… his offspring would be a nice addition to the gene pool, depending on how they mature and health test. But that one certainly was mature and "wise"....

Bryan was very firm when he left, he said he was NOT interested in bringing back anything unless he thought they would be accepted into BCOA.
So, fingers crossed, these dogs all do well with health testing… -

James posted this…....Made it back to kinshasa. Will be leaving tomorrow via Brazzaville. We plan to
go over as a group. Lisa Bryan and Laurie will return to Kinshasa and fly out 3
AM friday. We have got 5 Basenjis from Bokili, 2 boys and 3 girls all red/white.
2 are very red and have very nice wrinkles and structure. They are named
Lomako Mosika - far away
Lomako Mobengi - hunter
Lomako Lokalanga - peanut
Lomako Lokoso - greedy one
Lomako Lolo ya Jamba - heavenly forest -

I have to tell you Bryan is a "hard" grader…if he says the 2 pups are Excellent, then they are. I remember his saying he wouldn't bring back anything if he didn't think they were b's and they would have to be quality enough to be included in the BCOA list. So, what an exciting time this is..
We will be able to watch the pups grow, see how the health issues are with them, and maybe see their ofspring in the show ring one day. Wonderful!!! -
Well, I'm hoping he brings them to National so everyone can see them in the African exhibition. They'll be more than old enough by then.

I have been reading about the expedition on another site. I'm very interested in the fact that he's gone to an undeveloped are of the Congo and very close to where some of our original dogs came from.
Not sure why this is under rescue talk either as they canm hardly be said to be rescued!!! Quite the opposite! -
Patty, I guess as a rescue person and not a breeder I didn't feel comfortable posting under anything other than rescue, but I could have put it under CHAT I guess.
Anyway, this is very exciting and I will share photos when I can.
