Welcome to the Forum. It sounds as though this 'protectiveness' has been going on a long time. I agree that probably it would be best to get help from a behaviorist but make sure that they have experience of Basenjis. In the meantime keep him away from your guests. It's possible that he's stirred up by the excitement so it's best to try to keep him calm when people are around.

Welcome! I have recently become owned by a basenji as well (May 2, 2009), and this forum has helped so much with the things that I wasn't prepared for despite the research. Good luck and happy reading!

Welcome! Don't forget to read through the Basenji rescue threads. If you can't find it there, someone here always has and answer or at least a multitude of suggestions.
Thank you for the rescue. Do you have your heart set on a particular little girl?
