I also thank you for being so good to give this boy a,home. it sounds as though he's had a really rough time in the past but I know you'll make up for all that. I hope he gives you a lot of pleasure.
Senior boy needs a new home

Oops! Just read the rest of this thread!
Great news! -
Just read the whole story, poor thing. It's brilliant that Kathryn can take him in but what a sad story. I can never understand how anyone can have a dog or any pet for years and then get rid of them when they no longer serve a purpose. It breaks my heart every time one of mine gets old and eventually goes, but at least i know they had a good life with us in a loving home, right to the end.
Glad it had a happy ending but i still feel for the poor boy being uprooted from his familiar surroundings at such a late stage in his life. I hope he gets lots of TLC.Theresa

Theresa,
I'm really happy to be taking Quinn in.Although I have many other B's,I felt like this was something I had to do.You see,I will tell you all a sad story.About 8 years ago,I got a call from basenji rescue. My friend, Barbara told me that one of my pups that I sold almost 13 years ago was in rescue and would I take her back. The first think I told her was why wasn't I contacted by the people? They knew that they signed a contract to return the dog if they couldn't keep her anymore. It was told to me that they didn't want to call me.Reason for the return-They where now pregnant and didn't want a dog around there baby. So,they got her when she was 8 weeks old and now all these years later, she wasn't wanted because of a human child coming into the picture.I'm sorry, but that is not a good enough reason for me!
Sad part about Indy, that was her name, was when I got her back she was so depressed that she wouldn't eat and after a month of this, and believe me I tried everything(chicken, etc.) I decided that she was telling me that she wanted to leave. So, after many weeks of crying over this poor, depressed B,I sent her over the Bridge.I felt it was the only thing I could do.
I did have someone that would have taken her and tried with her,but couldn't get a transport! The people who where involved should have been ashamed of themselves, they sent her to her death.I just couldn't see her starving herself anymore. So, I will try to make Quinn happy in memory of my Indy.

Very, very sad. Thank you Kathryn for sharing this touching story and taking in Quinn. I'm sure he will be very happy with you. You did everything you could to help Indy.
I rescued a 2 year old R/W in 1994 named Ringo. He was given up because the couple were having a baby and didn't want him either for that reason. He was sick with a digestive disorder, way under weight and very angry. He bit my other B/W Basenji (female)on the neck the second day. The good news is I worked with him, got his health under control and had him until he died in 2007 at 14-1/2. He turned out to be a great dog. -
Kathryn, you are doing a great thing and i wish you well with your lovely gesture. I am sure with time Quinn will settle with you since you are clearly a good person and animals have great instincts about people. You were unfortunate with Indy but you did your best and at the end of the day, you at least ended her personal suffering and not for selfish reasons, it was for the right reasons. Dan, you were lucky to be working with a stronger dog i suspect, good on you for your determination.
I look forward to hearing how Quinn gets on Kathryn.

BRAT has a group that help transport b's.
I don't know if they will be able to help you with this, but you can sure ask.
There is also an airlines that fly dogs, and they do a great job.
So, good luck..do let us know how it goes. -

Kathryn - I'm happy for you and Quinn.
People are so helpful, and it means so much when they lend a helping hand to rehome a rescue.Bless you.

Would like everyone to know that Quinn is already settled here and making himself at home.He loves to eat the raw diet that I feed here and I'm sure that he will put on some much needed weight. He seems to be a sweet little soul and sits and looks lovingly too me for a cookie.
My other B's seem to except him especially Classy who has found a quick friend.
He is no trouble at all and the little bit of meds he takes is no problem and at night he wears a male wrap for leaks. All in all,I will give him the much needed TLC that he deserves.Kathryn and all the
