I've read on the internet, that if you get your Basenji pup from the very first day, to walk with you off leash ( of course where there are no dangers), she will never run off . I try and do it on a daily basis. Lots of treats in my pocket!!!:p

sigh Mine too, I think. I'm too scared to even ponder the idea. That's the only thing I completely dislike about my Bs - or the breed in general - I get so jealous when I watch my sister's lab galumph obediently around her yard off leash.
