Introducing my new Parrot - Captain Jack!

  • Thought i'ds share him with you all 😃 He will be coming home in about a month.

He's the one at the front, taken a couple of days ago:

And here he is last night. "harness training" - they got the wrong size harness

  • toooooo cute!!!

  • Aww he is lovely:D

  • Very cute! I have never heard of a parrot harness….seems like a good idea!

  • Thanks all! 😃

I do love the harnesses, it means you dont have to clip the wings which i dont 100% agree with. Its harder to get them used to having a harness on once they get older though which is why the breeder is starting little CJ off in his now for me 😃

Here's a harness on a bigger birdie. My very sadly missed Jake:

  • What a cute parrot!!!!!!!

    How old is he????

We wanted a parrot also, but we already have parakeets and so many other pets… and they are so high maintenance!

  • The little baby is about 8 weeks now i think, i shall have to check with the breeder actually as i dont know for sure lol!! He is due to be ready in about 3-4 weeks!

I have had a lot of parrots, done lots of rescue work. I just love them! Im waiting on a rather rare and beautiful baby lory to be laid, and then hatch, which will hopefully happen by the end of the summer. Truely amazing colours on that birdie!

Let the head bobbing begin. My uncle had a McCaw or named Boo Boo. He was a Blue and Gold. From what I understand those Parrots bond with their owners and can live to be about 75 years old. After buying an huge iron cage for Boo Boo, the Parrot would constantly loosen the nuts and bolts with his beak. No matter how tight they were this would happen. When my uncle moved to California he felt Boo Boo would be better off at one of the Casino's near him where they have other Birds and allow them to fly free. So now he goes and visits Boo Boo occasionally, and feels he did the right thing because now the Parrot has a better quality of life.

    ooow please keep me updated!!!!!

  • Aaahw.. sooo cute!! We have a parrot at the University.. such a cool animal 😃

  • I love your parrot What kind is he? Is he a macaw? if so what kind? We have a severe macaw, plus 5 other feathered friends. All rescued or needed re home. The basenji's get along quite well with them . But we are very careful with who's in and who's out knowing full well the basenji's prey drive. Our severe was "in love" with our elder elkie and mourned his death along with us. His new buddy a catahoula lepoard dog puppy has him calling his name and reprimanding him when he is bad, he also tells him to go outside to do his business. The dog/bird bonding in this house has been really remarkable.Nothing we ever taught. If we don't answer when the puppy barks our umbrella ****atoo will start screaming till we come also the puppy will bark if the ****atoo wants something and we don't come fast enough. Enjoy your new baby. We have found that birds are truly remarkable creatures we are amazed everyday with what they say that was never taught. All but 2 of ours talk. If you want a good read into bird capabilities read Alex and me by Susan Pepperberg. Truly a great read for a bird lover. I just couldn't put it down.

The big one in the harness is a Cape Parrot. Very rare, very good pets 😃

I would love a macaw, but they are just so noisy and high maintenance  When i used to do rescue work i had Blue & Gold and Greenwing macaws in and they used to escape even the heaviest of cages - naughty birdies

Will check out that book, thanks 😃

  • What a cutie!!! I have always been curious about birds, never had one as a pet… I have had cats, dogs, fish, and a snake! I am also very curious about bearded dragons...

  • CJ is home. I picked him up on Wednesday! Here are some pictures taken yesterday with my phone, sorry they are such poor quality!

  • He is beautiful Jess what a lovely colour he is:D

  • He is beautiful 🙂 I love parrots, but when I worked with them, they never seemed to like me!! Or maybe they liked me too much..I don't know…it seems like I could never get them to do what they were supposed to do, and they were always nipping me!

  • Thanks for the replies! 😃

I've always got on really well with training parrots, i dont know why. I think you have to just trick them into thinking that what you want them to do isn't really what you want them to do, its what they want to do 😃

If ya get what i mean!! Most of them are far too smart for their owners. Im sure CJ will be no exception lol!!

Sounds a lot like training (or being trained by) a basenji

  • Maybe that is why i am enjoying my basenji-training so much then 😃

  • What kind of parrot? We have a blue fronted amazon Sweetpea and Jaycee loves him. Got a big cage and the other day we were cleaning it and left the door open and Jaycee got in with Sweetpea. They got along great I am not going to left that happen again what if they had not my fault. They look at each other all the time Sweetpea go to bottom of cage so he can get eye to eye with Jaycee, I am happy that they like each other it could have been a mess.
