My 2 Basenji's

Show Off Your Dog
  • These are my 2 B's. The tri color is Danik and he is about 2 1/2 now. The red & white is Colton and he is 2. They are both males and that makes them quite a handful. I know I should have never gotten 2 males but I couldn't help myself. We drove to Kentucky after much dog breed research to pick up Danik from a breeder there. A few months later we were looking around at a Petland and spotted Colton. I know pet shops are full of sick, unhealthy dogs from puppy mills and that is exactly what Colton was. He was greatly under weight and sickly looking. Being that Basenjis are rare to come across and that he was so sick I couldn't help but buy him to save him from his fate at the pet shop. Anyway they are both typical Basenjis but I just can't help but love them!

  • They are cute… thanks for the pictures... you should consider getting DNA tests done for Fanconi... especially for the Petland pup.... and if the breeder of your other has not tested the sire and dam, then for him also... you can learn about Fanconi at www.basenjihealth.org and the DNA test available for Fanconi

Becca and Tucker are certainly more adventurous than Spencer. He wants no part of water– coming from the sky or puddled on the ground. When we're walking, he will screech to a halt in front of a puddle, like he's waiting for it to move. Becca and Tucker sound like fun dogs to have around. I saw their pix in another thread, and they are so cute-- bet there's never a dull moment at your house!

Arrrgggg technology! Here's another attempt: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58136979@N03/5429455987/ If it doesn't work, it's her chewing on a huge bully stick.

Yes, Bungwa will toss any of his toys into the air and catch them but definitely will not catch anything I throw. He has no competition because the others just look and say 'Boooring'!!! Interesting about your best hunters being fetchers, Quercus. I wonder if there's a reason in it or whether it's a coincidence!?

Ono is a Hawaiian word, used to describe something that is 'the best' AND happens to be very basenji appropriate :) We hesitated naming her something that so strongly resembled 'no' but we don't use 'no' very much in our training, we say 'hey' to get their attention and then give them another cue to follow when we are redirecting their behaviour. The pups love the huge costco bed, and I love the great cedar smell :)

Sounds good! I'll check w/the vet, it soundslike putting super glue in cracks on feet and hands. I'll also look into something to keep him warm. I used to guide down in s Utah. I love that area. Everything east of Capital Reef onto the eastern slopes of Boulder Mt. Kicked around in the San Rafael Swell and down s Cedar Mesa during my off time. Beautiful area. Thanks agan. Greg

lillysmom1- we had contacted Keath a few months ago about fostering but never heard a response. Glad to know all is well. Beautiful dogs on that site, as well as your own. We are in Columbus OH but always willing to help if needed.
