A good "safety" exercise to practice is a command that tells your dog treats are in the offing, and use it at irregular intervals when you are walking. Combine the command with a total release of pressure on the leash, preferably when your dog has firm tension on said leash. Then if something unexpected happens you have a built in reaction of the dog to look to you for a reward. This won't work if your dog is pursuing a major distraction, but should give you an edge if you have an equipment failure in otherwise neutral conditions. (you can carry this one step further by "accidentally" dropping the leash in a controlled area, or with a light line attached for safety, and practice until the dog turns to you when it feels a total release)
Lost Basenji in Antioch, CA
-
Hi,
Karen Jones allerted me about the little male basenji
named Clint that escaped from his home in Antioch.
I'm in Alameda, about 30 miles from Antioch and am
trying to spread the word.I made a small color photo/flyer so people could send around
and/or print.Do you know how I could upload it to this site?
Thanks,
Maxie -
Can you put it on photobucket?
If so, then you can post it to this site. -
Here's a photo/flyer of Clint, the Basenji boy that was lost in Antioch, CA on Jan 5 except it just uploaded as a thumbnail. I also just made a photo album and uploaded a larger version there. Sorry, I'm new
to this and am just trying to help a friend. Thanks, Maxie. -
Just click on the thumbnail and it'll enlarge (at least it did for me). Fingers crossed that this boy is found safe and sound. Thanks, Maxie, for your help!

Any word on this boy being found yet?

Clint ? The lost basenji dog was just seen near a school yard in
Antioch. Please send this around. They need someone in Antioch
or who can go to Antioch to pick him up!The owner, Myra, is blind and cannot see him or see to catch him.
Clint's been on the loose since December. -
I wish I were over there- I'd go look for him myself!! This is heartbreaking!!

I just spoke with Karen Jones of SoCal Basneji Rescue. They desperately need help from someone in the Antioch area. Clint has been seen at two different schools, but Myra needs someone close by who can drive her and her other dog when he is spotted to catch him. If you or someone you know lives in the Antioch area and can help, pls contact Myra. Thank you!

That is great news!

So this dog has been on the run since December and is just fine? Gosh… I wonder how he got food/water??? I'm so glad he's caught! What is B-pix? Anyway of telling the owner/owners family about these Forums so they can join in and introduce us to little Clint?

To answer your questions - Clint was lost in late December. He ended up establishing a 4 mile territory which he circled. It included 3 schools and a Taco Bell. Food? Kids throw food on the ground at school. Water? it's been raining. About the owner, Myra, using the forum? She cannot see. She is blind. I was petrified the last 2 nights, thinking about how cold he must be. I thank God that he is safe!

TGFTB… Thank God for Taco Bell.
SOOOOO glad Clint is safe!! I want to see his pictures!
-
B-Pix is a yahoo email group for sharing pictures of Basenjis.
Whew, glad for such a happy ending for Clint and Myra!
