  • Hi there

My wife and I had a basenji/collie mix for a lovely 15 years. Her name was Samantha and we adored and loved her so much. Sadly we lost her this spring.

Although the grieving process will never end we have now decided to get another sweetie. We cant seem to live without a basenji or basenji mix.
We have been searching for a dog or puppy but have had no luck. We live in Ontario Canada and are willing to travel to find our new love.

Please I think if anybody can help us it's got to be this comunity so we gratefully thankyou in advance for any help you can provide us

  • Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum. My condolences for the passing of your Samantha.

You have definitely come to the right place to get help locating a rescue or pup. Basenji Rescue and Transport has quite a few rescues in Michigan. I don't know if that is within the distance you're willing to travel (or how close you live to the border)

If you are looking for a puppy I know of a litter due end of December in Ontario (Niagara Falls area) and the breeders are also members of this forum Here's the page:

Wherever you end up getting your new addition, make sure to do ample homework on Fanconi.

  • Welcome to the pack and let us know how the search goes.

  • I would suggest that you look at the BCOA Website www.basenji.org - many but not all breeders are listed there. It would be a good place to start. I do know of 2 litters and would be happy to put you in touch with them if you click on my name and go to my homepage you can contact me via that site.

I don't like to post peoples personal information on public lists.

  • Where in Ontario? I also live in Ontario and know of litters and puppies. Same thing as dmcarty. You can click on my name and then on my website, or go to the BCOC website @ http://www.basenjiclubofcanada.com/
Depending on where you live, I may know of someone close.

:) Hello Marilyn. Twenty years sounds like the perfect planning time to prepare for a b. ;) Once you're in you're upside down. Care to share how your 4 month old has changed your day to day? Tom

Thanks, I am very lucky to have her, she's so sweet with such a loving nature. But she does like to hunt, and last night roughed up a little oposson in the back yard. It did get away, with my help. Do other Basenji's like to herd? When Zoe went to a dog run in St Pete, she ran all the dogs to a tree, and kept them there as long as they would put up with it. It was hillarious!

Big Hello from AZ to The Jones' Been busy doing coursing practices with the club. Jocelyn has been learning too, she even operates the lure machine and sets up and takes down the course. She took Buddy to OK and got a 4 point major. We're off to Texas on Monday for two weeks of shows and probably see you two at Palomar or Camp Pendleton. Best regards, The Brody's Harry Potter fan huh. No wonder you get along with Jocelyn so well.
