      @elena86:

      I was walking Senji, and a woman was driving past. She turned around to ask me if he was a basenji. It turns out she lives about a mile away and has 2 B's…male and female siblings. She said she got them from a breeder in Ohio. I didn't get to talk to her too much...Senji was yankious. Anyway, she told me the street she lives on. I'll have to look her up someday.

      Another PA resident here! I live near Mercer, PA. I used to work in Foxburg, but I'm now in Franklin. Eau Claire is such a nice area. I used to take the "scenic route" home from work through your town! Small world 😉

      @Rita:

      I loved your story and it sure looks like Gracie has the best in love and home. My daughter and I both looked at all your pictures twice and both say the same Gracie looks to us like she has Shiba in her. We have had ours for almost 11 years the size the white on feet, ears just lots of things. The paw thing over the eyes our Shiba has done since day we got her just like a cat. The shiba acts very much like cat. No matter who or what she is pretty.

      Thanks for taking the time to look at her pics…and for the input! I am going to do a little research on Shibas. I have seen photos, but I think that's about all. Gracie does act a lot like the cat! Here, I just thought she was emulating her.
      I also want to say to Thunderbird, THANKS for giving me a better description of the noises Gracie makes! She definitely yodels. That is a perfect way to describe it. But…unlike Basenjis, she does bark. Not a lot, but she does it. She almost always follows a bark up with a yodel. Funny little creature! I have only owned one other dog--a ****apoo, for about 13 years. This dog is NOTHING like that one! 🙂

      @thunderbird8588:

      Welcome Gracies mommy and of course Gracie. As everyone has already said you are welcome here whether you have a Basenji , a Basenji cross or indeed no Basenji.
      Thank you for sharing your great story with us and thank goodness there are people like you in the world, Gracie has landed on her feet.
      She's a gorgeous looking Dog, i too can see Chihuahua and corgi in her, i know it sounds odd but her backend sticking out of the snow reminded me of a corgi.
      Can you tell us more about her traits and vocalisations?

      Thanks for the welcome Thunderbird8588! I can definitely see what you mean about her back-end! 🙂 My Aunt has Corgis and I also entertained that thought. It's strange that she would have such long legs, though. She's OBVIOUSLY a Heinz 57! 🙂 As far as her vocalizations go; she is always trying to carry on a conversation! She makes noises like she is "talking". Its hard to describe. She will look someone right in the eye and grumble and tilt her head from side to side like she is telling them something. Then she'll stop and the person she is "talking" to usually talks back! It's funny to watch! She must know what she's trying to say! 😉 She likes to howl like my own little baby wolf, too! Of course, it doesn't sound as good.
      She rubs her face (over her eyes and down her nose) with her paws alot, too. I think she learned that from the cat, if that's possible! I've never seen a dog do that. She does it alot. It looks like she's trying to be cute. At first I checked her eyes all the time to make sure she didn't have hair or anything in them. Sounds like she's turning out to be a Corgi, Shepherd, Chihuahua mix! Wait'll I tell my vet! HAHA! 🙂 Thanks for all your input! I apreciate it.

    • RE: Hello everyone!

      Thanks for the welcome, and kind words! Gracie is about 25 lbs. When she was a puupy, I thought she looked a little like she had Chihuahua in her as well, but the vet didn't see it! 🙂 She seems tall to me for her weight. I would hazard a guess at 18" or so tall? From ground to back–not icl. head. I'll have to measure her when I get home.
      I will have to post a picture of her next to something that can be used as a reference.
      BTW: She "talks" an awful lot! LOL! She also learned how to "say" I LOVE YOU at about 6 months of age. Is that something inherent to the breed?

      What a pretty baby! I am in the same boat as you, oh, and I also live in Pennsylvania!
      I want to know about my dog as well. The vet said what she thought my little mutt-puppy is, but I want to know what some owners think!
      I LOVE Harley's ears!!

    • Hello everyone!

      Hi! I am new here, and not entirely sure if I should be 🙂
      Here's my story:
      It all started last July. I was visiting with my parents, and was getting in my car to leave their house at about 10:30 at night. My mother was standing next to my car as I was getting in, and jumped about five feet closer to me and shrieked. "There's something on the other side of your car!" she shouted. Getting back out of my car, I asked what was over there. The said "there's a little monster or something lurking in the shadows!" while clutching onto my arm for dear life! 🙂
      I started towards the shadows, slightly crouched down, not sure of what was "lurking" in the dark yard. As I moved closer, something darted out from the shadows, and curled up between my legs! I yelped (just to scare my mother, of course!) and my mom took off running!
      It was a PUPPY!
      A cute, cuddly little fuzzball!
      Long story short, no one claimed her…so I became the puppy's mama.
      I took her to the vet and we did all of the puppy shots, etc. The vet told me that she thought my puppy had been abused, and that her tail had NOT been cut off surgically. 😞
      My vet thought the puppy was a Basenji mix.
      I, of course, had never heard of that and just nodded. Uh huh.
      She (the vet) told me she would know more as the puppy got older.
      I was just at the vet about a month ago, and the vet said that my puppy is definitely a Basenji mix.
      The "puppy" is now 8 months old, and her name is Gracie. The name came about due to the fact that when Gracie came to us, she was ANYTHING but graceful! She simply did not know which end was was headed which way! She used to fall down alot (mainly because she would get to running so fast that she would lose control of herself!) trip, wobble, face-plant...you name it!
      Gracie is the love of my life!
      I am not entirely sure that a mixed breed dog should be in this group, nor am I ENTIRELY sure that Gracie is a Basenji mix, as I have not had her DNA tested.
      I wanted to find out more about this breed of dog, and thought this to be the perfect place to do so!
      Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
