I am glad to hear of her improvement. Sometimes we live with dogs and don't see the changes they start so slow. It's good to make it a habit to actually inspect them monthly. I hope she keeps improving but as Sally said, too much weight gain isn't good.
Tail wagging

Hmmm…
Are we risking introducing hemivertebrae by breeding for tighter and tighter curl in the tail in domestics?-Nicole
Don't know about the hemivertebrae issue, but it's interesting to see what type of tail develops. Neither of Zoni's parents have a tight tail curl, Pow's is a larger loop but Zoni and the rest of her litter have a much tighter curl in their tail. I'm curious how predictable that is up front if you have never bred one of the dogs before. And it seems like good tail set/rear assembly would be more of what is breed for versus how tight the curl is. Zoni's is nice and curly but I'd rather that she wasn't so high in the rear versus having a tightly curled tail. I like them a little more loose personally so that they can drape a little over the side.

Does anyone's Basenji uncurl their tail upwards when they are pulling on a leash or while maneuvering during a B-500?
It's hard to explain, but my B's tail will extend up at times when he's running around on his leash, usually trying to pull in a certain direction. He has a loose curl and always uncurls his tail when he sleeps. I always laugh when his tail extends upwards when he's running around.
You will see that on the lure field… either extended upwards or straight out behind, it depends on the "set" of the tail and the curl....

Ah ok. I still think it's comical.

Kell will wag his all over the place and if really excited it goes around like a helicopter! Rogue just moves hers a bit side to side, Sidhe moves hers when she is really happy to see her boy.

Hansel has ALWAYS wagged a LOT. Jonny does when he gets excited and wants to go walk or to initiate play. It is SOOOO cute. Wag=happy

Anubis wags his curled up tail too…I think its adorable! He wags and Wooo's when I come home and let him out of his crate and whenever his other favorite person, Dean, comes over. It's so cute!

Kipawa is a big tail wagger when someone who has left the house comes back in. It's a big smile maker for us.

Cody has never wagged his tail. EVER. Having only had happy tail waggers previously (a Golden retriever mix for example - they are exemplary tail waggers), I initially found this very disconcerting, but I have learned to read his other signals to know when he is happy. It's weird to me, but his tails never moves with his emotions. Sometimes it relaxes and straightens when he is relaxed, but that's it. So, I just watch the rest of his body language to gauge how he's feeling. From what I see on this forum, it's not that uncommon. But - I am insanely jealous of those folks whose Basenjis wag!!!! LOL!
