#1 AKC agility basenji for 2007

  • Finally the 2007 year end AKC agility stats have been published and I'm so thrilled to brag that my brindlewonderkid, DIGITAL, finished up the year as the breed's #1 agility basenji. What's even more special is that he just turned 11, so his 2007 season was as a 10 year old. The last time he was #1 was in 2002 and he's been in the top 3 every year since. He's also our breed's only Dual Champion with master level agility titles. Truely a do-it-all dog. I'm so proud of my "old" man. I love him to pieces. He's my first competition dog and we've done and titled in: conformation, agility, coursing, rally, therapy work. We'll keep competing as long as he enjoys himself.

  • two years ago - i think

  • My daughter shows in agility in the midwest but not with basenji's. I know how much work and training goes into agility . I know how much she does. I get reports on the "grandkids" after every show. She always tells me if there is a basenji there and how they did. She thinks it would be a great challenge to train a basenji in agility but then she would have to live with one and that thought she can't handle. No hounds in her vocabulary. Ha Ha! When I go to visit my daughter I make sure she is showing so I can go and watch. It is great fun She is showing both of hers in excellence . Kudos to you and your dog.

  • Wonderful news, huge congrats. What a great photo

  • Congrats! That is so wonderful!!! :)

  • Yay Kim and Diggie!!!! How exciting! How did he and Querk get so old so soon :(

Keep up the good work…here's to many more years in the top ten!

  • Congratulations Kim and Digital! Time sure does fly. I can't believe that my boy Nicky is already 10 years old.

Hey, excellent! I just checked to see if it was up a few days ago and it wasn't, so this is breaking news. I hope everyone enjoys and learns from it. It's geared for people who have never done agility before, so do feel like it will be over you head or too indepth.

I have had that same situation with Ayo,only with him it's usually with large dogs. we only have one area at the park here, all together, small dogs and big dogs. When he goes in he always chooses one big dog , runs up to him and starts growling. Sometimes he stops very quickly, or the other dog growls back and it stops or it escalates , usually because the other dogs owner freaks out. He is fine around small dogs. And I am pretty sure that he is fine with most dogs, that if I leave them they will work it out, but I'm afraid to let it play out because bigger dogs can really hurt him, and also because usually the other owner freaks and intervenes making everything worse. Sooo, Ayo has started to get a bit of a rep.. The basenji rep!! I usually wait till only small dogs are in…

Thanks, I didn't even look at the link in it full pasted format. It was sent to me in an unusual format not just pasted into the message which is why I wasn't sure it would work. Thanks for adding the link on its own. Therese

@agilebasenji: What nice runs in what is a very high pressure situation. Happy little basenjis - both of them. Drew reminded me of my kids when he "discovered" the judge in his ring. <gg>I hope Zest! and I can go sometime. Did Drew's jumping style change when he lost his eye? Just curious about his depth perception.</gg> Thanks Kim. I am sure you and Zest will one day go. Put it on your 'to do' list. I did. :) Drew's jumping changed dramatically. He used to jump very similar to Feigh but without the overzealous enthusiasm that makes her jump too early sometimes. Once he lost the eye - he started to stutter steps and at 16 inches would crash the doubles and triples. As he gets older and age related changes occur to his remaining eye which had issues related to VF as well, hiis stuttering has gotten progressively worse so I was glad to get the PAX out of the way. Thanks too Fran and Janneke. Feigh is a once in a lifetime Agility dog for me. :)

I started with a cat toy with a pl bag tied on the end to see if they would be interested before i went any further. The I used an old fishing rod with rope tied from there. Kind of worked the same as a lunge whip. (I'm too cheap to buy one if I don't absolutely need one)
