• In addition to She-Ra, our lovable B, we have two cats - 18-year old Booger and 3-year old Monkey. Monkey suffers from short-guy syndrome (he's managed to stay kitten-sized, which is adorable but gives him attitude), and he and She-Ra "fight" on a nightly basis as a form of exercise. It looks and sounds horrible, but they get along great and it's not too uncommon to see them both curled up together in bed at night.

One day Monkey's running around the backyard with a screeching bird that he's caught. This of course catches She-Ra's attention because she's gotta see what big brother caught. Monkey doesn't want the dog to hone in on the "kill" so he keeps running away from her. This catches my attention from the work I was doing in the yard, so I start chasing She-Ra.

Those of you who remember the old Benny Hill show can start humming the theme song. 🙂

My wife, seeing the commotion, makes the mistake of opening the door to ask what's going on. Cat (and bird, still squawking), Dog, and Me go into the house one right after the other…but now my wife's started chasing me chasing the Dog. We finally get Monkey outside, he lets the bird go, and it flies away (miraculously), and She-Ra's left with this puzzled look on her face. She just wanted to see what the cat had caught, after all.

She settled for giving him a bath, which he hates. 🙂

  • LOL, all of the stories are SO funny!!! Tiggy has yet to have the opportunity to catch anything yet. But the cat is quite the hunter as with Reggie. Reggie and her have caught mice, birds, lizards, and the cat one time brought home a bat. Reggie and Pigmy will actually hunt together. Now I'm curious about adding Tiggy to the fix. I know they have both hunted the squirrel at our Oklahoma house.

  • EL D catches rabbits all the time but nothing so funny as Charlie or She-Ra.

He did go after a stupid cat one time and "damaged" it too. EL D and I were in the yard getting things ready for winter, when this stupid cat jumps over the gate and on to the deck (he must not have seen us). EL D, of course, tears off after him and the cat, instead of trying to climb a nearby tree, trys to climb the house (vinyl siding not bricks or stone). Needless to say EL D nailed him without a scatch on EL D. I got him (EL D) away when they both fell into the azalea bushes. Wasn't really funny but an odd story.

  • Basenji candy

We tried to save them but she slaughtered and ate 9 of them. This is the one we saved.

  • I had a Momma cat and one of her kittens (strays) walk along the top of my fence any my Cody spotted them. He kept jumping on the side of the fence as they walked along. As the got to the side of the fence with the gate Cody finally hit the fence hard enough the cats fell off. Momma on the "safe" side and kitten on the inside. Next thing Cody has this kitten caught around the middle and it screaming, and Momma cat is on the other side spitting, and hissing through the gate. It took a lot to pry the little kitten out of Cody's mouth and it had its little sharp kitten claws in my hand. I dropped kitten and it ran under my deck. To this day years later Cody still sticks his head under that section of the deck looking for that kitten.

  • Our dog would have killed it instantly, no playing for her.

We once had a huge ground hog that was trapped or hiding between our fence and our neighbors. Our girl just started ripping the wood away from the fence like it was balsa wood. She was just crazy!

We have a 5' wood fence and once when chasing a squirrel, the squirrel went over the fence and our dog went through it, into our neighbors yard! She just ran full speed and at the fence put her front legs out, knocking out a fence picket. Luckily she was surprised and just froze, while I went & grabbed her.

I had to secure the fence with lots of deck screws all round at the corners

  • The rat reminds me of the movie Goodbye My Lady!

  • Lovely yard…..beautiful landscaping!! What do you put on your grass? I'm curious what you and others put on their grass in the way of fertilizer, weed killer, and insect repellent? Cory and Jayden graze like two little sheep. They are the first dogs we've had who go out and eat grass like it is their daily salad! Before with our other dogs, we would put the stuff down, water it in really well and there would be no problem because the dogs didn't eat the grass regularly.

  • Thank you.

I don't put anything on it because of the dogs. It's just really green because it was early spring & rain & sun. It browns out by August. I don't use any fertilizer or weed killers in the back yard.

  • Very nice yard! Especially considering you have basenjis.

Last fall, I was having some trouble with slugs eating my blazingstar (Liatris) and sprinkled some organic stuff (made with rotten eggs). It was rated to be non-toxic to pets - except I forgot about the smell – EL D made a beeline for it as soon as he smelled it. Never used that again!
