  • Can Someone say, "PEE EWWW" Oh yes, and then quickly followed by, "Jack, Wanna BATH!!" He took off down stairs. But he must have been miserable smelling like that, so he got Several baths!! He's sleeping now, but i thought id share the pics of bathtime!!! ENJOY!!

    IN THE BATH…

    GETTING DRIED OFF!!**

  • Oh boy…we've been there. Poor guy. Did you use the peroxide, baking soda and citrus scented Dawn mixture? That's the best!
Even if you use that or a commercially made product, he'll still smell when he gets wet or even damp. Lots of luck!

  • Poor Jack…. :(

I hope he gets to smelling better soon!

  • I love his expressions:D …...poor boy.

  • poor Jack….but he looks so cute :)

  • Thanks!! I tried all the home remedies, and i ended up having to pay Pet Smart Grooming to de-skunk him…lol, and the sad part is, he was JUST at his groomer the other day, lol!! OH WELL, I bought some doggie cologne and he is only stinky on the VERY tip of his nose!!! (where the groomer couldn't put the de skunk stuff) My poor Jackers!! haha ((GATTA LOVE THOSE PRICELESS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!!!))

  • My vet sells some stuff that gets the skunk smell off of dogs. I know this not becasue of my dog but I was at the vets office one day and a farmer came in to pick it up as a couple of his coon dogs had a run in with a skunk, it works and is pet safe.

  • Jack has such a cute demeanor. So tell us how the skunk encounter happened. I am sure Jack was just walking along, minding his own business right? The skunk came running at him, jumped in the air while rotating his bum towards jack. And did a drive by spraying? LOL, fill us in on the stinky details!!

  • WELL WELL WELL…Leave it to JACK!! The skunk is actually trying to live under our porch. So again last night, JACK got himself sprayed!!! CAN U BELIEVE IT!!! TWO DAYS IN A ROW!!!!!!!! Oh yea...Well my husband got the hose because no one would help us, we called ALL sorts of different people...anyway, my DH got the hose and sprayed it until it came out from under our porch and he chased it off...Jack had to stay outside for the night (and all day today too) He is STINKY!! lol...its only on the top of the head at least. Its fading. I'm leaving him out there to make sure the skunk doesn't try and come back. We are going to rip out that porch this weekend anyway. (ESP now!!) And my poor house stinks too...(not to mention I'm pregnant so the smell is AWFUL!!) I don't know what to do, i know Jack is just being protective of his home and people, but it is frustrating (two days in a ROW!!) lol...i guess i just have to laugh about it. Besides the smell, Jack is doing fine!! Me on the other hand, suffering thru the STINK!!!

  • This had happen a couple of times to one of my pups… Her house had a skunk under the deck also... and they had to call someone to trap the skunk... honestly... they will most likely be back unless you find the entrance and block it off....

  • I know this may sound stupid, but I use an oil based cleanser. Skunk spray is oil based, if you can get rid of the oil, usually the smell goes too.

  • Well, we are ripping out the porch so there is no where for the skunk to come back to! LOL, but my house its STILL airing out!!! GRRRRRRRRRR

Yes–they are very much creatures of habit. I had a skunk that was visiting my backyard every day years ago--fortunately, my dogs never had a run-in with it. But I ended up hiring a wild animal trapper who trapped animals like skunks and would relocate them.

@Kipawa: I love the licking/kiss picture. You can tell your basenji's almost think of Ryan as "their property". Great coursing photos - once your b's catch the lure, what is the look on their face? Is it like "darn it, I thought I was chasing a rabbit", or is just having the lure good enough for them. Sending you some nice hot tea and unpollinated fresh air. Hope you are feeling better soon. The only thing they think is: GOT IT GOT IT GOT IT :D

You may want to try frequently rewarding him for staying still before he gets a chance to complain. You can then start building up time between treats once he gets the idea that standing still will get him a reward.

Our first Basenji targeted one post of a redwood gazebo in our back yard. He just slowly worked on it until eventually it was no bigger in diameter than a primary size pencil. We replaced the post, fearing that the gazebo would fall down when he eventually got all the way through. He loved the new post too, so we finally had to put metal flashing around it. He never really chewed any of the other 7 posts holding the gazebo up! 2 of our current Basenjis have completely denuded a eucalyptus tree of bark as far up as they can reach - but they leave the other eucalyptus alone… What goes on in their minds???
