@weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

Hello all! I got a dog from a shelter about 3 months ago and I absolutely love her to death. The shelter rescued her from a puppy mill across the country and I bought her the day she came in. She has been attached to my hip ever since but I cannot for the life of me figure out her breed. I’ve done some digging online (because doggy DNA tests are pricey) and I believe she may be a basenji long hair chihuahua mix. She has basenji mannerisms but barks like a chihuahua. (I know basenjis don’t necessarily “bark”). Does anyone have an opinion on what she could be?!

You need to make sure your picture isn't too big a file for the uploading to work. Maybe try downsizing it and uploading the result? If it's a picture you took on your phone, a "cheap & dirty" way to downsize if you don't have an app to do it is to email the picture to yourself, specifying a small or medium file size, then upload the result.

Looks are so deceiving but to me that is a basenji eye and ear set

She's cute. Looks like the eyes and ears could be basenji. Hard to tell. Try to get one of her in a standing position. What's her name?

I would also like to see a standing photo, taken from the side. How tall is she? How much does she weigh? Very Basenji looking head, IMO, and the colour is suggestive as well.

@morsesa This dog was a shelter rescue - there will be no pedigree papers.
Cute dog - I have seen a very similar rescue who was smart as a whip. They trained the dog to do all kinds of amazing tricks.

The head is remarkably suggestive of Basenji - and so is the pose. She's a lovely little lady and lucky to have found you as her forever home !

@eeeefarm I’m not sure how y’all she is but when we went to the dog park, there were some pure basenjis there and she was about their height. They looked to be full grown. She weighs about 19 pounds

This is the best picture I could get because she wouldn’t stop moving. Usually, her tail is up and curled in the shape of a “C”.

She looks long in the back for a Basenji, they are more square. But definitely has some suggestive characteristics.

@eeeefarm She does look long in the back, I agree, but, Strawberrykiwi, in my opinion she is far more basenji-like than many pictured on this forum an recognised as 'might be basenjis'. She is certainly a sweetie. I'd chance my arm and say that she is possibly a cross Basenji. I've seen many in my long Basenji associated life that have been very similar and pure bred. I accept that many people concern themselves as tho their rescue's genetics but personally think "Does it matter?" she is obviously loved and in my current and future !Basenjiless state would love to have her in my home. .

Oh but WHY, Patty - That is so sad. Don't share if you don't want to, just accept sincere sympathies from one who couldn't be without a Basenji - which is why Mku entered my life.
