We bought a dremel to do his nails and he absoutely hates it. I let him look, snif and move it while it was not off and he just backs up. I turned it on and he ran away. So we will us the dog clippers for his nails, those seem to be working.

I am pretty sure you can't just look at a mix and declare what it is. Scientific studies have debunked that over and over. Best to do a DNA test, in my opinion. I have a mix who was advertised as a Basenji Mix, and her DNA results confirmed it. If you just looked at her and made a judgement, it would be mixed: her color was all askew, her tail was half-curled, she was smaller and featured more slender face and feet than a pure-bred B. But, apparently, the 1/4 Min Pin (the ONLY other DNA in her sample) contributed some significant traits. Behavior and personality wise, Basenji rules the day. Again, I recommend a DNA test, and they improve by the day. What is this other B identity thing that is mentioned in this thread? Is it also a DNA test, or something else? Oh, and hey, your baby is way cute!

@lisastewart: So happy you were able to take her. It sounds like she has been well taken care of. You know Wanda and she knows me. That's why I ended up with some of the misfits from her. Long story, ask her about Mac. Every one I've had has lived a happy life, better than some people. Mac

Great photos & story! I love the two "non Bs" running on the dock and Otis' land shots…and his "home" shot! Thanks for sharing.

Our first Basenji targeted one post of a redwood gazebo in our back yard. He just slowly worked on it until eventually it was no bigger in diameter than a primary size pencil. We replaced the post, fearing that the gazebo would fall down when he eventually got all the way through. He loved the new post too, so we finally had to put metal flashing around it. He never really chewed any of the other 7 posts holding the gazebo up! 2 of our current Basenjis have completely denuded a eucalyptus tree of bark as far up as they can reach - but they leave the other eucalyptus alone… What goes on in their minds???
