• I'm lucky enough that my parents only live 10 houses away from me so they often help with watching Sonny if I'm gone anywhere for the day. So Sonny went to visit with them for a few hours while I was gone. My father took him out for a walk & then was going to drop Sonny back at my house. When they got to the end of my parents driveway Sonny refused to walk in the direction of my house. He would happily go with my father in the opposite direction but would lay down with his head on the ground if my dad tried to get him to follow in the direction of my house ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Now my father could easily pick Sonny up and carry him but home but instead he just brought him back in their house and my mother swears Sonny smiled at her and snuggled back up to her on the couch. My father tried an hour later and same thingโ€ฆSo he opened the car door and sonny jumped in happily thinking they were going for ride...well they did....10 houses down and Sonny finally went home! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  • Awww, Sonny just wanted some spoiling time with his Grandparents!!! Too cute!!!

  • There's no question most Basenjis will let you know their preferences. Sonny obviously figured that quality time with your parents beat being home alone! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • They are soooo smart, it's scary sometimes.

I totally agree. Kipawa is now wearing a coat on the cooler days. Usually when we drive to a park, he jumps right into the back of my car. Now with the coat on, he feels he is special and is entitled to special treatment. So I have to pick him up and put him in the back of the car. And it isn't that he can't jump with the coat on, because he jumps over logs and other things during our walk just fine!

  • I don't know if I told this story on here or notโ€ฆ.. One day my husband was home with Becca and they were sitting on the couch. Well Becca kept jumping onto the back of the couch and looking behind it (we had a gap between the back of the couch and the window). Well Wayne didn't pick up on this so she jumped off the couch, went and got one of her chewies and jumped back on the couch. She then jumped onto the back of the couch again and looked at Wayne. So he finally acknowledged her and while he was looking at her wondering what she was doing, she dropped her chewy behind the couch. He was like, what is your problem dog, then looked behind the couch. Her yellow duckie was behind there along with a couple other toys as well as the now dropped chewy. He picked all the toys up and once he had her yellow duckie she grabbed it from him.

All she wanted was her yellow duckie and had to figure out a way to get the dumb human to get it for her!

he he - Hope had a similar experience. She would hackle up at the couch (small gap behind it etc) just after we had been in our new house for a few months. we were like maybe shes just getting used to the place. then she started to hackle up at the oven and became obsessed with it. so we investigated and found a rat underneath the oven. so after that i moved the couch out of curiosity and found rat poo's. she was just tryin to tell us all along ๐Ÿ™‚

  • @Lysh:

    ISH!

Gossy would always let me know when it was time for bed - her time. I would be sitting on the couch or in the kitchen and she would come and sit down in front of me and when I looked at her she'd take off for the bedroom. If I didn't follow along (sometimes she wanted bed too early for me) she would do this a couple of times. If I still didn't get up to go to bed she'd finally go in and mess up the pillows for herself and refuse to get off them when I finally did show up! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  • Once in awhile when my guy is getting impatient for me to go out, he voluntarily brings me his Kong to fill. He gets that and his roller ball when we go out, so it is pretty much a statement "when are you leaving? I'm hungry!".
