Basenjis on Craigslist

Basenjis For Sale or Wanted
  • Thanks for posting this. Do contact BRAT as well, sigh. Those dogs need to fall into "soft" hands.

  • If any of these are still intact, they need to be rescued ASAP since breeding season is coming!

    Jennifer

  • Sigh, I hope they aren't used to make more "pets". Groan! I will send out a prayer for them all.

  • Sharron and other rescue folks - I totally admire you. I can't even look at these links - my heart breaks for these dear souls.

  • You know, I hadn't thought to contact BRAT, however, I will do that and forward the links to them.

  • Thank you dmarie, please, contact BRAT when you see these types of ads. They might already know about the dog, but in case they don't…..
Fran, I also dispare about so many more b's seeming to be needing homes now. Sigh.

  • This is the season for rescues…
the rain will start up and people won't want to walk their dogs.. nor house-train them... and they will get tired of the not-so-little-puppy.
    Sad sad sad

  • I did hear back from BRAT. They knew of 3 out of the 4 basenjis. 3 have been contacted and the one they didn't know about was going to be contacted today. Hopefully there will be a good outcome for all.

    For Sure Kathy, for sure…..

  • It rains here soooo much, but I squeeze in a walk as early as 5 am and sometimes not until 9 pm just to make sure my doggies get their walk in. When I hear about people that are moving somewhere that doesn't allow pets, it makes me crazy. Seriously, you take on the responsibility of caring for a pet so you find somewhere where they can live with you. And don't talk to me about not having time- I have a husband, three children, 2 dogs, 1 cat, and a full time college course load. And yes, everyone gets fed, walked, cleaned, homework done, and I still get just enough time to sleep. Sorry for the rant, but I live on a Navy Base and I see families leave their pets tied up in their backyards, stick them in the garage, or leave them behind when they move all the time- which is how we ended up the cat :(

  • Yes, its seems to be the way, just leave something if its not convient. My family was Navy, 30 and as I am 60 old, you know that was a ways back. We took our ****er to Hawaii 2 times. Yes, expensive, but part of the family. Wish folks were more responsible, sigh, but times seem to be changing.

what was deleted is spanial, co*ker…laugh.

@jodymp another post you sent stated you were in Yorkshire... so, are you looking for a pup in Europe? Do you have a specific region, or a distance range where you are focusing your search?

@debradownsouth He was Arrested and then he died. I will refrain from posting Horse related posts. You just did not believe me when I said Horses are taken to Great Adventure. Now regarding the Basenjis relation to Wolves: Mu dog loved the Wolves and when I would walk the Wolf and the Dog in the Park the Dogs there which included Rotties, Saint Bernards, Bull Mastiffs all pulled their owner out of the Park because Dogs instinctively fear Wolves. Thannks!

There is another Basenji on CL who is also from a GA breeder: https://louisville.craigslist.org/pet/d/purebred-basenji-pup/6625622891.html The owner is asking $400, sez he paid $800. BRAT knows about both dogs, but they won't pay a large fee. -Joanne

Hopefully brat or camp basenji contacted the owner. More hopefully, the owner contacted the breeder who generally has first right of refusal to take back their puppies.

My gut feeling is if you can't find a dog who is utterly good with cats already, your best and safest bet is a puppy. I suggest you get on a couple of breeder's list and wait for the perfect pup for your house.

@bellabasenji: It all boils down to what is better for the (so called)"breeders" wallets!!! UUuuugh… BYB's & millers!!! That is true, a pure for profit breeder is not going to spend money on health testing that is going to cut into their bottom line. They will do as little testing as they can do and still sell puppies. Educating as many people as possible to demand health testing for both parents is the best thing that we can do for the breed. There will always be some who want a puppy "right now" and won't care but the more people we can educate the smaller the market for puppy mill dogs because really most people do want to do the right thing and want a healthy puppy that will be a long lived companion.
