Dog/Cat food recalls

  • yes since the scare we bought valley health food which does not have the by products and other garbage the iams has

  • I would like to believe that this is not deliberate, but what other explanation could there be?? Even if there is a rat problem at the plant, how could the poison get into the products themselves?

  • @jessi76:

    Rat poison…

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=2975912&page=1&US=true

OMG!!! These poor suffering loving pets and people who love them! This is an example of how this "world economy" is a mistake. The poison is illegal to use in the United States. So they use it in China and send the products on which the poison was used to the States? I wonder if this product from China has been sent to other countries. Shouldn't there be "global" Food & Drug laws? If not, this could be the 1st recipe for disaster! How are we going to make sure the food products we buy are not tainted by unsafe agricultural and processing methods off shore? We need some kind of regulated enforcement to test imported food products.

Darn! Now I'm all worked up!

  • In many parts of the world, rat poison is used in the fields and in the storage facilities to control the rats. It's not so much "world economy", but world politics. The US and Canada have higher standards that much of the world, and the pet food industry is an unregulated industry. That's why, we, as the consumers, should be demanding the same laws and standards for our pets as we do for ourselves.

  • Any news of if the dog food companies will be paying vet bills? I only heard on the news that they ask consumers to save receipts. They better be paying for this!

  • Now Alpo wet food is also recalled. I had friends of mine come over this weekend and to show there support, they brought our B some food. Unfortunantly it was nutra so I told them thanks but it's been recalled. They say the food was bought last year for their dog and it was left over. Well won't take a chance with the brand either way. But now this whole Alpo thing too. I worry that the food we're giving our B will be recalled also. Thinking of going for some natural homecooked food until this whole mess is fixed.

Ive just put one of my guys on TOTW, and just bought a bag yesterday. Thankfully this bag appears to not be affected, BUT… I have 4 sample packs, one of which is open and has been fed to the dog... I cant find a Production Code box on any of the sample packs ??? Should I just chuck them out, or does anyone know how I can check to see if these are contaminated ??? ETA Im in Australia, and have heard nothing about this recall, until I came here today...

i stay with the same brand, good quality kibble. thats all Hope gets with maybe a raw bone and/or bits of left over meat (such as chicken) and pumpkin to have in the evening. when i was working in a grooming salon she used to get other premium kibble (samples for our customers) as "treats" - she was none the wiser and thought "yummo!" hehe and never had issues with it :) also -when we have fostered dogs she has had some of their kibble and had no issues with eating it. im pretty lucky i dont have a fussy eater :)

I was feeding my Basenji brand blue and she started getting crystals in her kidneys. With the recommendation from my pet store owner (Pet Ranch), switched to Nature's Variety Instinct RAW. Withing 2 months…all crystals are gone. Now Basenji, Rotty, and Puppy Mastiff/Pitt all get Nature's Variety. Their coats are very shiney and teeth are so white.

I agree with Pat. If the 'best' dogfood gives your dog gas, or loose stools, it isn't the best for that dog. Like Petra said, you feed a good to great quality food, hi or medium protein, whatever your dog likes that agrees with them.
