@zande - I have place pups at 9wks, but typically to prior Basenji owners, they know the "ropes"... also I do eyes at 9wks, so 10 works better for me in placing pups and yes...(LOL) mine are raised in the home, no kennel.... and the breeders that I know that use kennel runs, still have their pups in the house for house time and "education".....

Fran, thank you,
The KC Good Citizenship is a structured training programme that should result in a well trained socialy acceptable Dog and an owner who realises their responsibilities of keeping a Dog.
It starts with Puppy foundation, works through Bronze and Silver and ends with the Gold award.
Each module consists of a series of training sessions and an assessment except puppy.
For the Bronze she had to do a minute sit stay off lead, walk on lead in a controlled manner, walk near distractions, wait at one side of a gate untill called through, a recall, and a physical examination from handler.
Howard my husband then had to answer some questions about Dog ownership. -

I know the trainer gives courses that work up from the previous one, though I do not think that there is a recognized award system here.

WTG! Congrats.
The Good Citizen program sounds much like the US one.
http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/training_testing.cfmI have put some dogs through it, and actually helped as a helper during events before.
