  • Thank you for letting me join your community. We are one of the lucky ones, because of Corky. April of 1998 we had two wonderful Rottweiler friends, Helga & Hagar. Helga (12 years old) layed down in her favorite spot in the backyard and just went to sleep. One week after Helga passed Hagar was diagnosed with cancer and had to be put down. As you can imagine we were pretty upset. We waited one month, could not wait any longer. I wanted something different, so I call the animal shelter that was closest to us and was told they had a young female Basenji that had been found and not claimed. She was going up for adoption that same day. I asked them to hold her for me, I drove the 80 miles to pick her up. She was about 8 months old, had kennel cough, was lethargic and my husband wondered what did I bring home. Well, I have to say that was the best 80 miles I ever drove and my husband agrees with me. She is a great friend and a true arrogant Basenji.
We now have Corky and her little sister Zoe (Chi-Weiner)

  • Funny how they can go from so proud & Regal to a complete clown!

  • Does this count as an Obama Pose??? This is Nakura & Benji enjoying some rare Scottish sunshine.

ps Can anyone tell me how I get to include my pics in the post rather than just as attachments?? ie like the posts before me.

You copy the IMG Code under your image in your hosting account that starts with ![](, then paste it in your post

Sorry, I must be thick. I don't understand at all. I'm fairly new to all this forum stuff!! :o How do I create the link. I have my pics stored in my computer and I have been adding as attachments. I can see the button for insert link but what do I do now?)

  • What you need to do is start a free file sharing account at a place like Photobucket.com. They are a place you store your images at and when you paste the code the picture is linked to the page.

you can upload your pics on a website like photobucket (www.photobucket.com). If you do this, your picture will get a link. You can copy it in your thread with the IMG codes in front and at the back.

This picture got it's link because it's on the forum. You can find the link under 'properties' (right click with the mouse on the picture). That's why I could make it larger.

So I think.. the best thing to do is uploading the pics to a site like photobucket..

  • Thanks guys for the help. I'll arrange a photobucket account and post lots of pics for everyone to see. :)

I was living in Ghana for a few years and the year before I left had gotten my dog as a puppy from a neighbor. We became so attached, of course, that I couldn't leave him behind. It actually was very easy to bring a dog into the country–only a proof of rabies vaccination was required (surprising since the US has the strictest immigration laws for people!). He has adjusted very well, loves taking walks with a leash (in ghana he would run wild, and follow me around on my bicycle.) He refuses to walk in wet grass, though, which is something I think he shares with basenjis? I didn't post any pictures of how his forehead wrinkles--that's when he looks most like a basenji!

What a pretty girl! Her head/ears/face & wrinkles are Basenji-looking while her coloring & build suggest some Malanois blood–that would account for her size & aloofness, too. Our local SPCA does genetic testing as a fund-raising thing, if you're really curious you could try something like that...

The question about the doggy smell is a good one - basenjis do not smell like dogs. If you stick your face right into their fur the comparison is like sticking your face into a nice clean healthy cat - warm and not really a discernable smell. Except their feet. Their feet smell like Fritos sort of.

I looked up the dates for LGRA in August in Oberlin and I will on vacation that week in NC. I would like to meet up with you for a play date one weekend. Cody gets his staples out on Tues. (yeah) So after that I would be free most weekends until Aug 20. If you have suggestions on dog parks to go to let me know.
