Two basenjis in GA need help; their human passed away.

  • Yea!!! I am so happy for these basenjis. And bless the souls for the ones who took them in… Thank them for us. :)

  • Yea - happy days!

  • Thank goodness. Please thank the good-hearted soul that adopted a pair of older dogs. Though I consider my 13 year old "middle aged"!

  • That's great news!

  • Hi everyone, it's been a while and I hope this post finds everyone doing great!! I recently got an email from Niles' and Lulu's new owner and wanted to share the great news!
They now live in peace and harmony with their new basenji sister, who is the same age as them. They have a 3 mile walk to the mailbox and back everyday (I think they live in the mountains in one of the Carolinas), and when they aren't walking, they are relaxing and enjoying life.
Lulu went to the vet and it turns out that she had a pretty bad thyroid disorder. They are getting that under control quickly and she is gaining energy and losing weight.
All in all, the dogs are in a great home with a wonderful man who understands the breed. I couldn't have asked for a better situation for them!
Thank you to all of you for your help and guidance through this sad situation. A sad situation with a very happy ending!

    Sincerely,
    Valerie Pegg

Some things cannot be fixed. I urge you to get a qualified behaviorist (veterinary) to evaluate him. If he is truly unstable, rehoming him is not fair to him or the new home.

@Rocky1: Don't worry anyone,Dogs are coming home to me here at Jaroufa Hounds. Richard always knew that he could bring dogs back and his son finally found me. Anubis and Anuket will stay with me until a home is found or I will keep them . Kathryn Are they still available? How old are they? We presently have a 20 month old r/w well behaved basenji that we are thinking about getting a playmate for. Brindle is prefered but will consider another r/w or Tri from as young as a puppy to 2 years old male. Thank you Ruben

Ms. Vicki, you are the greatest! I've been thinking about this boy since you posted him. It's really cool you're giving your time and experience to rehome him properly. With your patience and the assistance of your wagging-tailed brood, you should have him turned around in no time!:) Hey, tomorrow's Thursday…any word on this boy?

He sounds like a very sociable youngster who would like having a basenji pal. I can't imagine having just 1, most really seem happier having a buddy. And while it may not be all roses for the first few weeks, after 3 or 4 months they will probably be inseparable. Good luck! Anne in Tampa
