Booger's kill

Basenji Talk
  • Took the kids out for a walk, and they both became very interested in a specific spot in the ivy. Acting funny, like there was something living, but I didn't see any movement. Booger picked it up, and I started commanding him to "drop" it. He started a low grumble in his throat; he was NOT willing to release whatever it was. At that point I noticed a 1 inch fuzzy tail hanging from his mouth. I started screeching because it was a dead nasty animal he had picked up. At that moment, Andrew arrived home. He came over & tried to get Booger to open his mouth. He was clamped down pretty hard & still growling, so it took him a few moments. When he finally got Booger's mouth open, it didn't fall out because it was speared on an upper tooth. We finally got it loose & it fell to the ground. It was the biggest mouse I've ever seen, about 5 inches long, with a tiny tail (maybe lost it in its final battle with a cat). UCK!!!!!! SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a later walk, Booger & Lola both tried to pull me over to their treasure. EW EW EW EW EWWWW!!!!

  • Well they are hunters you know. Be glad he didn't bring it in the house (my previous b used to catch rabbits and try to bring them inside during the winter - talk about yuk).

  • EWWWWW! Especially the being speared on the tooth part!
Chey caught a pigeon in the yard once. I took them for their afternoon walk and when I went out to throw the poop out back I noticed feathers all over the yard. Silly me thought a cat or hawk had gotten the poor thing. I cleaned up the feathers and a foot, went inside and Chey wasn't around. I found her sitting on our bed with the remains, very proud of herself. It took me some coaxing to get it away from her and then I had to wash all the bedding…which I had just finished doing earlier in the day!

I'm afraid If I do decide to get another I won't have a chance to introduce them beforehand as it Will probably be a puppy I bring from the US.. I doubt there will be a problem since she will be a young puppy…

@Lenora: She had got up from her nap, gone into the bedroom and knocked the ironing board over on her head, all in the space of less than a minute! LOL. Bella almost beaned herself during Christmas. She jumped up on the hearth and tried to pull down one of the stockings. It was held up by a very heavy wrought iron stocking holder. I heard it hit the floor and came into find her with the stocking in her mouth. It must have just missed her by an inch or so. She had gone for 3 weeks with no interest in the stockings. Don't know why they managed to get her attention that particular day. I sure hope she calms down at least a little bit when she's older.

This is the main problem right now, I suppose. The civil war's in the Republik of Kongo. I have been talking to a owner of Avongara Basenjis, who's daughter has been in Afrika with the last big expedition. And she had the same thoughts than I have: we thought, that if there are some Basenjis left (the ones which have not landed in the cooking pans), they are spread all over the forrest regions. Most of the human inhabitants of this region have left their houses for the next bigger city to find a little security and help there…. it is absolutely horrible, what mus go on there. But similar actions in other parts of Africa (Mali and Burkina Faso are always at the border of war like actions) plus in lots of these areas there are now many refugees from other areas which make the problems not easier for the habitants....http://www.azawakh.com/azawakhfriends/english/index.html Regards, Esther

My pup never bothered hers much and I didn't even use a spray deterent. (Of course she got used to wearing coats in the winter so maybe that helped.)

@nala121498: I love, love, LOVE your pictures in the gallery…the captions are hilarious too! What a cutie-pie he is...and I'll say it again...LOVE the name!!! Thank you so much! I stayed up late one night making a gallery to show him off. I know each & every one of us has "The best basenji ever", but mine really is! heehee. I never thought I could love a dog so much, and I'm glad I made that gallery since I'm out of town & its the only way I can "see" him right now :(
