She's A Lady

Basenji Talk
  • For the past few weeks we have been preparing for Kiya to go into her first heat. She has been exhibiting all the signs. Cranky, needy, kind and loving one moment and evil the next….oah wait...she is like that everyday. LOL :D

Well the wait is finally over and it couldn’t of come at a better time. Of course, Alex just left on business and i'm alone with the dogs. I come home from work to find little droplets all over the place. At first I immediately thought one of my fur kids injured themselves. I frantically ran over to them checking paws, ears, mouth, everything except for Ms. Kiya’s back end. Unbeknownst to me she is now in heat. I clean up the floors but continue to find fresh spots all over my furniture and floors yet I can’t figure out where its coming from. After a few minutes of scratching my head and thinking I am losing my mind I realize its my girl!!!
What an exciting moment. I swooped my little girl up and gave her the biggest hug and jetted off to the pet store to find some puppy panties.

After finding the right size I proceeded to put a pair on her and she actually doesn’t mind wearing them!!! Thank God!!!!!!! I was seriously considering duct taping them to her. She wears her little designer jean panties all over the house. Its quite funny to watch her strut her stuff. LOL

  • I started singing Tom Jones' "She's a Lady" and I thought "Why am I singing…" and looked back at the subject line. Oh. Right....

    Hooray for tolerating puppy panties!

"Whoa whoa whoa she's a lady..
And now she gets to strut
    'round the house in her
    super fancy panties
    Whoa whoa whoa..."

Thanks to music nerd Liz for telling me who sings that because I had no idea.

  • Your in for a fun laugh, cough, lie month!
    Do keep us informed.

  • She is going to be just about dead in season at the Santa Rosa shows…. make sure you keep her well away from the boys!!!! and tell everyone that she is in season.... No talking to Kobey for her!!!!

  • Talk about perfect timing Pat. Should be for an interesting weekend. LOL
Poor boys….they are going to go mad.
Here are a few pictures I took of Kiya showing off her "super fancy puppy panties" (thanks mauigirl....thats awsome!)

  • Just make sure you're not singing "That's why the lady is a tramp"

  • @agilebasenji:

Just make sure you're not singing "That's why the lady is a tramp"

    :D :D :D :D :D
    Too Funny!

  • She seems not to mind the panties..
    I am surprised.
I hear most b's can't get them off fast enough.

  • The trick is tea tree oil mixed with a small amount of vicks. I put a light coat on the inside of the puppy panties and that was all it took. She hasn't even tried to mess with them. Thats my secret weapon.

  • My pup never bothered hers much and I didn't even use a spray deterent. (Of course she got used to wearing coats in the winter so maybe that helped.)

@eeeefarm: The digital age has somewhat muddied the waters. Once upon a time you could buy a book or a DVD and when you were finished using it you could pass it on to your friends so that they could enjoy it (you still can!), and that isn't considered stealing. Make a copy for them to view, with the same exact result (they get to see the movie or read the book), and suddenly it is illegal. The law was drafted to prevent people from making numerous copies and selling them for profit, a clear infringement to copyright. For a person to make a copy for a friend to view rather than snail mailing the original seems to be in a "shades of grey" area. I'd be surprised if most on this forum haven't at some point downloaded something for personal use that would infringe copyright if the letter of the law was applied. You make a good point Shirley.. except that even 40 yrs ago you could tape or even xerox music/books to share, but it wasn't legal. The problem is that if a person LOANS you his movie, snail mail, it goes to one person only, and it goes back to the owner… you don't get to keep a copy. If you put on a server, many can copy it. Right now musicians are in terrible financial straits over people pretty much stealing their work instead of buying it. Some music programs (I am blanking on names) pay the artists a bit every time you listen to their music, thanks to advertising. That's great. But if I want to own a song on my own computer or to burn on a disk, call me a patsy-- but yes, I buy it. I believe people who create books, music, art... they have a right to get paid as much as your plumber, mechanic or grocer. I don't sneak into movie theaters either, btw, not even if I could do it and not be caught. Many digital books can be loaned, btw. I have borrowed a few and loaned many of mine through Amazon. You could, of course, just let someone borrow your e-reader or mp3 player, lol, but that's more generous than I want to be. I don't know what the solution will be years from now... I know that cable companies tried to block recording movies and that didn't go over so well. So I do agree there are certainly conflicting and gray areas. But a cavalier approach to stealing, justifying it because the owner is rich, etc... that bothers me. And it bothers me for someone to try to pretend it is legal or for educational etc. If you are going to do something, man up. :) Thanks for the calm voice. :)

You can find a lot of puppy collars at thrift shops for pretty cheap - would never pay full price for one. I'm getting mine at 14 weeks and was told that 8-12 inches was what was being used - then at 4- 6 months graduate to 10-14 inch collar.

@Lenora: She had got up from her nap, gone into the bedroom and knocked the ironing board over on her head, all in the space of less than a minute! LOL. Bella almost beaned herself during Christmas. She jumped up on the hearth and tried to pull down one of the stockings. It was held up by a very heavy wrought iron stocking holder. I heard it hit the floor and came into find her with the stocking in her mouth. It must have just missed her by an inch or so. She had gone for 3 weeks with no interest in the stockings. Don't know why they managed to get her attention that particular day. I sure hope she calms down at least a little bit when she's older.

This is the main problem right now, I suppose. The civil war's in the Republik of Kongo. I have been talking to a owner of Avongara Basenjis, who's daughter has been in Afrika with the last big expedition. And she had the same thoughts than I have: we thought, that if there are some Basenjis left (the ones which have not landed in the cooking pans), they are spread all over the forrest regions. Most of the human inhabitants of this region have left their houses for the next bigger city to find a little security and help there…. it is absolutely horrible, what mus go on there. But similar actions in other parts of Africa (Mali and Burkina Faso are always at the border of war like actions) plus in lots of these areas there are now many refugees from other areas which make the problems not easier for the habitants....http://www.azawakh.com/azawakhfriends/english/index.html Regards, Esther
