Can you spot the basenji

  • I know you can…but he mussed up the covers, carefully placed the stuffed animals, and put himself to bed like this it was too cute. Turin thinks he was pretending to be pack leader of his stuffed animals (placing them all around and sleeping in the middle is apparently an alpha thing to do)...whatever it was it was really cute.

  • Way cute..thanks for sharing.

  • Did he actually fall asleep like that, or was he just playing??? Too funny!

  • Really cute!

  • So adorable!!! It's amazing how these dogs can sleep :p

  • Too funny! He looks like King of the Crate! :-)

  • Toooo funny :D :D :D

  • He was dead asleep in this photo

  • I filled Lola's crate with stuffed animals today, hoping she'd do the same thing. No such luck.
    Very cute

  • Lol..Indi has always been wierd about his stuffed toys. When we first got him at 10 wks we would let him sleep in our bed alone when he was napping. After a few days of this he would take his stuffed animals and put them down for a nap. Bring them to our bed, put them down, cover them with the covers just like we did for him. It was funny for a while because until I figured it out I would walk by the bed and say "Huh… how did that get there" put it back in his crate and then a half hour later when I went back in the room there was the stuffed animal taking a nap again.

    Its good hes so cute

  • Great picture! I hope I am not being indiscreet but I live in France and cannot find crates as big as the one on your picture, are they easy to find where you live? Do you know if they can be ordered and sent to Europe? I must sound silly but I have spent a lot of time looking for a good crate for my basenji and haven't found one yet. Have asked in pet shops, they are horrified when I tell them it's for a dog!!!!!in other words…back to work soon and worried already about the dammages in my appartment when I'm not in!!!!!
Sorry if this comment is not appropriate and indiscreet, it's not meant to be

    Hi Christiane,
If you contact me privately (you can go to my profile and then to my website to find my email address) I can give you the name and email address of another Basenji owner/breeder in France. I think that maybe she might be able to help you out with your questions about crates.

  • Thanks a lot, I'll do that right now.

  • @rnasto:

…stuffed animal taking a nap again.

Napping! That's what those stuffies are doing! I always thought they were playing dead, hoping their B master wouldn't tear them apart for their coveted squeaker organ! ;) :) ;) :)

  • Thats a great picture of Turin. I had to do a double take just to find the guy! He really hid himself well

  • very cute!

  • I love it! Classic B behavior! Makes me wanna rub his belly.

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

We bought a dremel to do his nails and he absoutely hates it. I let him look, snif and move it while it was not off and he just backs up. I turned it on and he ran away. So we will us the dog clippers for his nails, those seem to be working.

I agree with the others that although he seems to have Basenji in him - his head is def. not Basenji. As for the leg I'd have it amputated if it troubles him - He'll cope with 3 legs I'm sure, but certainly consult a specialist first. Please keep us updated.
