  • Mauigirl - Oh! Very cool! We only got to see Sherman for the first time when he was 6 weeks old. He was the biggest of the litter of 5 and that is why we named him after a tank! He is still a giant - he is not fat, but he weighs FORTY pounds!! I thought my last B was big at 30 pounds… Sherman's daddy looks like he was a really big boy too, so we were not too surprised. His sire is Avongara Kasabu - pix on the BCOA african stock project page.

We probably met Zip, too when we went to Denise's to meet Robyn (shermies mom). Too bad you aren't still here in SoCal - you could meet us at the dog park!

  • oh I see…....I think you got Sherman awhile before we got Zip. I was thinking he was from Robyn's recent litter but that one was by Walker and the season before (Dec '06) the litter was Robyn x Avongara Kasabu. I found the pics on the Af Stock project of Avongara Kasabu. He IS a big boy!! Wow!

  • Welcome to Manny and you!
We are also in San Diego (Penasquitos)
You got a major love in Manny - whenever we would see him with Denise at a show, we always had to get our Manny fix. He would just wag his tail and cuddle up even then!

  • Welcome to the pack and when you get a chance post some pictures.

    Terry,

I think I know who you are. I met Bob a long time ago at a dog show in San Marcos (before we had Manny). Manny still wags his tail A LOT! I met a friend of Denise's once (she owns Echo) and she asked me how often he does it. Apparently Echo has only done it twice in her lifetime and once after her owner was gone for a whole week. Its so cute to see his big "cinnabun" shake.

I took a pic of his curly tail just for you. I wonder if Manny misses the shows. I stacked him for the pic and he growled at me. Hahaha.

  • We have 2 big waggers - Tex and his 6 month old son, JR. They're also both big talkers! JR's sister Queen only talks now and then and when she's trying to get her brother to wrestle with her. So I guess it comes down on the Y chromosome, hee hee.

    Terry (and Bob)

  • Mauigirl - I didn't even realize that Robyn had another litter of pups. I guess it's because Sherman still seems like such a baby to me, although he is a year and a half now. Guess he'll always be my baby!! :)

  • Kaylee also is a Starfyre Basenji from Denise. I saw the b pups when I got her last year in the middle of December, i think Robyn just had the pups the week earlier.

  • Oh wow! Quite a community of Starfyre B's out there. Sherman was born Dec. 5th. If you saw the pups, he would have been the giant one :) He now weighs in at 40 lbs but he is not fat at all, just a big dude.

If you are ever in SoCal we should try to get the dogs together!

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!
