People post mixes here and on Facebook all the time thinking the are a basenji or a mix.. This one is one of the few that really might be! She's probably mixed but I have seen purebred capped basenjis and ones with heavy ticking. A dna test would be interesting!
Her ears look a bit more rat terrier than basenji and the breeds have such a similar look that they get mistaken for each other a lot. I have a friend with a red/white standard rat terrier (show dog) who had a docked tail and is constantly mistaken for a basenji.
Hello from San Diego
-
Hi. I’ve had Basenjoy since 1988 when we got our first from Edgien’s Basenji in Ohio. Since then we’ve had four more. One from Texas and three from Arizona. Actually we’ve had nine more if you count the litter we had this year. Four girls and a boy. Fairly uneventful other than the fact the semen was from a long dead male.
Our interest is mostly in the more recent African imports, mostly because of concerns with genetic diversity. Definitely not show people. We have done some lure coursing though, given our location, the time commitment is significant, making that difficult.
Looking forward to learning more about our little beasts and sharing whatever insights we can.
