Yes, I did hijack the thread, my apologies to the op.
Hello from San Diego (CA)

Hi, we have a 3 year old male B, Ch Starfyre's Superman (aka Manny). He's our first B and a retired show dog. He's a big sweetheart and a pain in the butt sometimes. He and his brother Khali (R/W Ibizan Hound) are quite the "attention getters" around town. Everytime they hit up a dog park they stir up a whirl wind and love it.
We're looking forward to learning from experienced B owners and hopefully meet more Bs in San Diego county.

Welcome to the forum! We also got our B from Denise of Starfyre.

Welcome to the forum! We also got our B from Denise of Starfyre.
Wow, what a coincidence! Our dogs used to play together and shared the same kennel. When we adopted Manny we were contemplating adopting Zip b/c they played so well together. She is one of the few dogs who can punk Manny and get away with it.
Are you in Southern California?
-
Mauigirl - we also got our basenji - Sherman - from Denise Searcy! We met Manny when we met with Denise and Shermie's mom (Ch. Starfyre's Rock 'N Robyn). We may have even met Zip then too. Or, maybe you met Sherman as a tiny puppy, depending on when you got Zip.
-
Superman:
We were in Southern California until the end of May (the 27th). The only ties both of us had to CA was that we went to the Claremont Colleges and once Liz graduated (a year after me) we were ready for a change. So now we're in the Atlanta area.
Sherman's Mom:
If Sherman came from Denise's last litter I definitely did see him. Denise graciously took care of Zip for us while we were away for Christmas and when I dropped Zip off at her house Robyn's litter was very very young, their eyes weren't even open yet. And then they were much more up and moving about when we went to pick Zip up. In March Denise also brought 2 of the puppies she still had to a lure coursing event. They were all precious! She sent me their first pictures too. I'll have to go find pics of Sherman now to see if I can remember which one he was. It was definitely a big litter.
-
Mauigirl - Oh! Very cool! We only got to see Sherman for the first time when he was 6 weeks old. He was the biggest of the litter of 5 and that is why we named him after a tank! He is still a giant - he is not fat, but he weighs FORTY pounds!! I thought my last B was big at 30 pounds… Sherman's daddy looks like he was a really big boy too, so we were not too surprised. His sire is Avongara Kasabu - pix on the BCOA african stock project page.
We probably met Zip, too when we went to Denise's to meet Robyn (shermies mom). Too bad you aren't still here in SoCal - you could meet us at the dog park!

oh I see…....I think you got Sherman awhile before we got Zip. I was thinking he was from Robyn's recent litter but that one was by Walker and the season before (Dec '06) the litter was Robyn x Avongara Kasabu. I found the pics on the Af Stock project of Avongara Kasabu. He IS a big boy!! Wow!

Welcome to Manny and you!
We are also in San Diego (Penasquitos)
You got a major love in Manny - whenever we would see him with Denise at a show, we always had to get our Manny fix. He would just wag his tail and cuddle up even then!Terry

Terry,
I think I know who you are. I met Bob a long time ago at a dog show in San Marcos (before we had Manny). Manny still wags his tail A LOT! I met a friend of Denise's once (she owns Echo) and she asked me how often he does it. Apparently Echo has only done it twice in her lifetime and once after her owner was gone for a whole week. Its so cute to see his big "cinnabun" shake.
I took a pic of his curly tail just for you. I wonder if Manny misses the shows. I stacked him for the pic and he growled at me. Hahaha.

We have 2 big waggers - Tex and his 6 month old son, JR. They're also both big talkers! JR's sister Queen only talks now and then and when she's trying to get her brother to wrestle with her. So I guess it comes down on the Y chromosome, hee hee.

Mauigirl - I didn't even realize that Robyn had another litter of pups. I guess it's because Sherman still seems like such a baby to me, although he is a year and a half now. Guess he'll always be my baby!!
-
Kaylee also is a Starfyre Basenji from Denise. I saw the b pups when I got her last year in the middle of December, i think Robyn just had the pups the week earlier.
-
Oh wow! Quite a community of Starfyre B's out there. Sherman was born Dec. 5th. If you saw the pups, he would have been the giant one He now weighs in at 40 lbs but he is not fat at all, just a big dude.
If you are ever in SoCal we should try to get the dogs together!
