  • Thank you.
We have had Great Danes for 25 years. We showed in obedience trials during the first 15 years. Earlier this year, we placed our last one on a farm in northern Indiana to get the work and exercise he needed.
My wife has worked with the Schipperke rescue for 12 years. After we adopted Willow, we decided that we would also like to work with the Basenji rescue.

  • Though basenjis are my favourite dog breed, I have to say that I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Schipperke. I like their size, alertness and the lovely shiny black coats they have.

  • I loved their pictures passed out on the couch! Welcome to the forum. Did you get him from BRAT? If not yell and I'll give you the contact if you need it (though you can just put brat basenji and find it to fill out application to volunteer).

  • Yes, we got Benny through BRAT. He was listed on the BRAT adoption page from Ohio. He was 8 months old when they posted him. When we got him he was 14 months old.

  • Welcome to the forum! When I was at the beach in San Francisco last summer there was a Great Dane get together and there must have been at least 35 of them. Buddy loves large dogs so he was in heaven! :D

  • Welcome to the forum

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome.

  • Welcome to the forum - it's always good to hear from people who take rescues into their hearts.

  • Dean, welcome to the forum.

I own five basenjis. Two yodel until you have a headache and my female barks. She always did. Short clipped barks. I also researched the breed before getting my first and she is an excellent dog. My third basenji was a handful. Three years later and he has stopped his destructiveness etc. It was a hard three years. Lol. You never know with a basenji. Greatest breed. Loyal, active, funny but some require ALOT of patience.

Welcome, from another Ohioan. We are on the north side of columbus and have 1 r/w boy. We have occasionaly taken him to the Westerville dog park but his behavior has not be great lately. We have cut back. We also help BRAT transport and foster. Great to have more B's in Ohio. I see so few of them in Columbus.

@WriggleysMom: We've always had rescues and I feel like I've missed out on puppy antics, so I'm debating. Toby doesn't baroo or wag his tail and I really miss being met at the door with a welcome baroo and a tail trying to wag itself off!! I had a puppy and was getting the urge for another but now we have a 7-mo old foster and I can't take my eyes off her. I remembered I really did not miss that!
