I'm so sorry you have lost your darling bad girl. What a wild and wonderful life she shared with you. You wrote a wonderful eulogy, I feel like I know her a little bit. The "bad" ones seem to touch us the most, it is that wildness that I love about basenjis. You were a good partner to love her as she was, and appreciate her wild heart.

@ForeverAmber: I thought it would be worse but he is doing ok. It just seems too quiet in our house without 2 Bs going at it as they play or have little squabbles. Thanks Tanza I have been viewing pics of c-me I have to wonder if she is as big as mischief I cant believe how big he got. C-Me is about normal size for a girl, leaning to the smaller side… both she and Franie are about the same size. C-Me has a lovely litter in 2012 of all Tris, this fall she will have a litter by Trip, Franie's brother. Pictures will be available on my site or FB. Glad to hear the Mischief is doing OK with the loss of his big sister.

I am so very sorry, it must have been just awful for you. Mine never wear collars in the house, and we even walk in harnesses, thank you for thinking of others with your warning.

Michelle, I am so sorry for your loss. Your story hit close to home with me. I am glad you were able to preserve Tayda's dignity. Basenjis are proud dogs and what you did was honorable for Tayda. I know, even as humans, we don't want to deteriorate and all wish to have an honorable passing. Tayda is still with you and a short divide away. She will have plenty of things to show you when it is your time. :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Cleo reminds me so much of our Lab/B cross, Kia. At 13, she's starting to get stiff and impatient with her two Basenji brothers, but she's also been a kind and patient "nanny dog" to a number of lost-soul male Basenji fosters. To suggest an answer to your question, same sex dogs don't always bond as well as opposite genders. Kia and my first B, Sam I Am, never got along–both females, so not surprising. And most of my male foster/forever Basenjis have worshiped the two females--but only tolerated each other. But don't be surprised if Bassit starts displaying Cleo's mannerisms or behaviours if you ever adopt a little brother for her. When my Sam I Am passed away, very uncharacteristically Ben took up her duties as "Little Mother" to the next foster, surrendering his food bowl, cleaning and hovering like a mother hen-- with the same devotion that Sam had lavished on him.
