@debradownsouth I wasn't trying to be condescending and I am sorry you took it that way. I was trying to convey my deep concern for the way airlines have treated pets that fly (many don't even treat people that nicely anymore.) When I said I don't roll dice, I meant that I no longer take chances....when pets fly as "baggage" as my first Basenji did, the treatment she received at the hands of the airline that we trusted made me vow we would never do that again. You have been lucky to have had good experiences in the main. I think that is wonderful. I understand that others such as you may not agree with my views, that's no problem. And I never said that anyone was less caring than I...that is wholly YOUR interpretation, not my statement. Caner is a friend and I was giving him my opinion...I thought he and I were discussing between ourselves but certainly your input is appreciated. Basenji people need to stick together!!!!(Otherwise the Basenjis will TOTALLY take over!!!)

I wouldn't ship a pup in cargo but certainly many have been. We got our first dog that way.
I saw a list of airlines and pet deaths a while back. Some have a much better record than others. I believe that by any measure -- sheer numbers or per mile -- United was at the bottom of the "bad" list.

Mostly because United allows brachiocephalic breeds (ie short muzzles), which others don't. That accounted for most of the deaths. But, knowing how much more dangerous it was, why did they?

It still pertains with British Airlines - and flights out of London, Debra. I had to check up in the last 6 months. And they are still very fussy about the size of the crate and the space for movement, standing, lying, turning.
But if Turkish airlines allow Pet in Cabin - so much the better for Caner and the puppy !

:( That's hard. I wonder what their reasoning is? I looked and at least they allow certified assistance dogs on all flights. El Al does not allow any dog over the weight limit, period. Honestly, the most stressful part of moving to Israel was the paperwork and timing of requirements for the dogs.
We're able to carry a recognised assistance dog free of charge in the cabin of all our flights.<<
