Tanza Basenjis Breeding Plans for 2012

Breeder Talk

  • Little "Jaspers" arrived in Oakland, California this morning via FedX. C-Me will be bred this afternoon and tomorrow. With any luck, pups will be due November 30, 2012.

Litter details can be found on our website, link below

  • Woohoo, congrats and good luck with the breeding!

  • Here's hoping for bunches of happy, healthy tri babies, Pat!!

    Terry

  • Ah, to be young and crazy enough to think a housefull of tri-ing basenjis is a good idea. ;-)

    I'm hoping for 6 rambunctious healthy tri-ing babies. 3 girls, 3 boyz.

  • The forum is so hard in the winter– all those new puppies for those of us who are puppyless to drool and envy. Heavy happy sigh. Congrats-- here's hoping for healthy happy new pups.

  • LOL…. "young".... if only... more like old and crazy enough...

And thanks... works for me 6 (3 & 3). The stud owner sent me a text and said "I hop you have 8 or 9.... " I sent back, if I do you will find anything over 6 being fedx'ed to you!

I was going to say 7 - all boys, but I like you.

  • Lmao, too funny agilebasenji,
I like Pat too, I say five- either 4:1 or 2:3 ratio

    Good luck!

    LOL, could happen

  • 2nd Breeding done yesterday…. Ultrasound October 25th

  • looking forward to seeing photos in Nov of the happy babies.

  • Just curious- what does FedEx label a box like that? SPERM inside ? DON'T TIP?

    Just wondering, lol

  • LOL Chealsie!!!!! Not labeled anything special, there is special packaging that the Vet uses as the sperm is chilling and spun down, so the container is pretty small! It is the dry ice that takes up most of the package.

  • Lol, for all I knew it could have been labeled "LIVE ANIMALS"! I didn't know if rules and regulations state that anything of that nature needed to have special labeling for the handler. That's good to know, gives me a chuckle though that the FedEx deliverer didn't know what he was handling
    :D

  • Oh no, not puppy season again! My husband wanted a puppy last year but I was too late to contact anyone and reserve, then we adopted Chipley and filled our quota.
Don still talks about wanting a naughty puppy, he is home full time so he deserves one, but 4 is way too many, and Nicky would never forgive us.

I would love to VISIT a houseful of puppies. I'm sure yours will be amazing, Pat.

I have 4 and I'm perfectly sane. (Of course one is a malinois and she's crazier than all the basenjis put together)

    No, really I am.

    I AM too sane.

Uhm, oh, well, okay, maybe you're right.

  • Ultrasound complete! And the count is SEVEN….. pictures will be on my website this evening!

  • Whoo hoo, that's awesome news!!! Seven tri puppies, you should be certifiably insane!!!!

I can't wait to see the pics and hear the great news of their arrival

    CONGRATULATIONS

  • Pictures of the ultrasound now posted at www.tanzabasenjis.net

And yes I will be certifiably insane! Litter should be due November 27-29, 2012…. might even get to have a "quiet" Thanksgiving dinner"... but will be a bouncing Christmas and New Year!!!!!!!!!

Oh and in case you are interested... I was DONE when they got to 5!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Andrea and Robyn, That was helpful. Zoni isn't horribly mouthy but I definitely have some more work to do with her. I carry a nylabone in my pocket for the occasion.

Well, while Lisa is enjoying her pups (and yes I am jealous…ggg)... We are still waiting for Mz Kylie to be bred, however today Baily was very insistent that he be able to spend time with her...gggg, so with any luck we will get a breeding today or tomorrow... if so we should be expecting at the end of January

@Quercus: <> Right...I wasn't sure if that was the litter that Sue was referring to? But I don't know of her doing any other brother/sister breeding. So yes, Ariel is a product of that breeding. The idea was to do a test breeding to see what genetically, if anything, might be brought out. By doing an inbreeding, you can 'expose' recessive genes, and see what you've actually got. You can also set (as in permanantly set) type...but, that wasn't the goal in Sue/Jeff's breeding. In this case, the two "best" "typey" puppies from this litter will most likely be bred on from, as long as they test out as genetically and physically healthy, they will most likely be out-crossed, to bring in different genes. Ariel's brother, George, is quite stunning, and is easily the best looking puppy in the litter. Ariel has a beautiful head, but is long in body, short in leg. Neither one is what we consider a "show dog" ;) And the litter's sire is quite handsome!.... the dam of the litter, while long in the back and short on leg (like it sounds Ariel is) has a great temperament... both are great to build on the future.... and breeding out from these pups will be great to build on too.... I am pretty sure that would be the breeding Sue was talking about, like you I don't know of any other brother/sister breeding she and Jeff has done.
