Ice cubes Hanas favorite snack

Basenji Talk
  • whenever we open the freezer she comes running and is so excited to get a ice cube which she crunches up and eats ! she really loves them more than dog treats i think
you can giver her a dog treat and she is so picky she drops it and looks at it like ummmm you going to put it back in my mouth now ;) so maybe I will eat or drop it again !!! :) love that about them

but ice cubes :) she takes and devours them

so anyone elses basenjis love ice cubes so much ?

only thing I found is a older thread about freezing treats :) which I might do is freeze the kongs up for a fun ice play treat

  • Our dogs have always loved ice cubes!

  • Here another ice cube lover!! And I occasionally fill Tillo's Kongs with treats and vanilla custard and then freeze it. He loves that too :)

  • cool thanks :)
other dogs I have had in the past were never nuts over them ?

  • Both of my B's love ice cubes. They know the sound of the automatic ice machine in the fridge and in the summer when they really want one, they will hear it and come running to get themselves an ice cube then take it outside and wonder why it melts.

  • My boy loves ice cubes and I have often wondered since he is tall enough to hit the paddle in the auto dispenser in the door why he just doesn't help himself. I think the noise startles him just enough, Thank God b/c I think he would eat them all. Do Basenjis get brain freeze from eating cold food too fast? Hmm… He also likes it when I put the ice cubes in his water bowl with water. He will bob for them. :)

  • Pearl also loves ice cubes. Sweet girl.

  • having a dog figure out the dispenser could be a funny thing to get on video though ;)

  • Another ice cube lover here. Kipawa totally loves them. We make sure though that he cannot see that they are coming out of the fridge water dispenser area. He is as smart as a whip and I fear he would figure it out. He also gets about 3 - 4 ice cubes in his water (fresh twice daily).

I see your post was back in Jan. so I hope you have your new basenji settled in. I also adopted a beasenji in Jan. She is my second. I adopted a 5 year old to be with my 3 yr. old, who had had 2 litters in the past and was bred for a 3rd one, but didn’t get pregnant. So the breeder, the same breeder our boy came from, decided to let her go to a forever home. I had to wait quite a while for her to be ready and I felt just like you. I couldn’t wait! I kept texting the breeder questions, request for photos, etc. When we picked her up she seemed comfortable with us right from the start. She has been a wonderful addition to our family, a good match for our 3yr. old boy. He’s a toughie but I think he’s met his match with her. He’s so much happier with his own friend. They love to be together. I hope your new pup is adjusting just as well as mine. Have fun. I think they make us laugh every day. Yes, you have to be on your toes with these guys, you have to make them a big part of your life. They can never just be a fixture. They are work but it’s worth it all. 3 years ago I was a newbie but not anymore, and I’m loving this wild ride.

You gotta love when your dog can be entertained by an almost free icecube for "ever", well until it melts at least. Otis hasn't figured that fun out yet, but our gloryfied mutt, Luna (she is a Schnoorkie…), she goes nuts. Unless you sneak the icecubes out of the freezer she will be climbing the freezerdoor trying to steal them from your glass, and it is not like we won't let her have any...but stealing them is more adventurous, I guess. Our little survivor pup... on a whole different note, my cat that I had ion the past, she would try to take them out of your glass of water...she hated getting wet, but it is like the icecubes were talking to her, she could not leave them alone...she had to get them out of that glass of water...and that too, was a funny sight. A cat whose head is completely soaked from all her rescue attempts.

mine love ice too, but not as much as aerosol whipped cream! They come running when they hear the ice and the sound of the whipped cream shooting out of the can!!

@lvoss: Maybe it is because I live with black and whites but I have never thought of their faces as less expressive. I love their heads. I love the b/w heads too. I think the wrinkles are a big part of the expression and I can see those clearly on the b/w male better than I can see them on the brindle male. I never thought much of the b/w's…...till I got one.....or two. :D
