+ 1?

  • so i havent been wanting to say anything because nothing is set in stone as yet… but god im just so excited and hope things go to plan so to speak.

so Hope's breeder is rehoming one of her pups born about 5mths ago due to her not being suitable in the show ring and for breeding. so shes wanting to find a new pet home for her. i have put my hand up to see if she will fit in with our family.

i have met her as a pup and Hope has played with her but they havent seen each other for a few months.

we are waiting to make sure its ok with our landlady (fingeres crossed we are allowed) but we are already meeting on friday arvo to see how they go and so i can meet her properly again.

anyways, i havent said anything to anyone cos we just dont know whats going to happen. but IM SO EXCITED! ..... and i needed to blurb it somewhere :P and shes a tri... ive always wanted a tri!

  • So we are currently +1 :) I have fallen for her, just waiting to spend some time with her- Hope keeps hogging her lol

Hope takes her toys to her and offers one end so they play tug lol so cute.

    I'm sure they will get tired soon!…. .... :)

Still waiting for our landlady to approve. Hope she does cos we all love her already n it's her first night. If not then she's had some home experience and different sociliasation which helps. But I'd love her to stay forevers.

    :)

  • Congrats - now we need pics ;-)

  • Congratulationas, hope everything works out well for you all

  • Keeping my fingers crossed that your landlady approves… maybe you can tell her that two basenjis are always better than just one? :)

  • Hehe I'll have some begging to do if she says no- she fits in perfectly and even has the OH wrapped around her finger n he wasn't at all keen on the idea to start with. We want her to stay :)

    Will post pics shortly ;)

  • heres some piccies :)

i added an extra one of Hope and Diodji (from previous thread) our new basenji friend that we met at the dog park :)

  • How cute! Hope it works out.

  • Oh she is very cute! They look to be getting along just fine - if they can eat in each other's presence without being afraid of food stealing, that's a very good sign.

  • I thought that too (about the food). But I do feed them separately so there's no issues :)

It's currently 2:45 am here and I've been slowly kicked out of bed :P hehe

And in awesome news: landlady got back to us and said as long as there's no problems: its a YES :)

  • Hooray! I'm so pleased that Hope is able to keep her companion.

    Lovely pictures of them.

  • Congratulations on the new addition :)

I know too many puppies and dogs injured or killed due to collars left on unattended. Not worth the risk.

Like much internet advice I find short answers incomplete - and mine was. I really want to ad that making a crate/xpen/gated puppy area should never be seen as "punishment". These partitioned puppy areas should be conditioned to be safe places for a puppy/dog. Mine, thankfully, tolerates and even likes her xpens probably because it's where she eats, receives treats, sleeps, chews and even plays. This took about a week or so. Now she voluntarily goes into her xpens (in my case) on her own and when she's put there involuntarily she might whine for a minute before settling down with a chew and/or going to sleep.

@jkent I have certainly never even heard that advice and would not have taken it if I had. It depends on the conditions underfoot, the breed, the size of the puppy (some breeds have very large ones !), off leash or regimented walking, stopping to admire the view / watch the puppy socialise with dogs he/she meets. SO many things to take into consideration. I wouldn't pay much attention to generic advice from the KC. Our breed is 'different' !

@creambasenji said in New Puppy Advice: She's 9 months and 8.5 pounds. Doesn't seem she will be getting any bigger This must be a typo. 9 months or 9 weeks? At any rate, I'd love to see a picture of a cream Basenji, toy or not.

She cleaned up her bowl in under 5 minutes this evening, then promptly walked to the pantry door indicating she wanted more. Guess it was just a teething issue. She's getting plenty of exercise.
