Welcome to the Forum. It sounds as though this 'protectiveness' has been going on a long time. I agree that probably it would be best to get help from a behaviorist but make sure that they have experience of Basenjis. In the meantime keep him away from your guests. It's possible that he's stirred up by the excitement so it's best to try to keep him calm when people are around.
Hello hello
-
The name is Tom, living in Belgium and just recently became the owner of a 5 month old Basenji boy, wich is, as you might allready guessed, called 'Voodoo'.
Also have a 11 year old Sheltie boy (Igor) and a little kitty (Miwmiw).Had 2 Thai Ridgeback Dogs, a Puli and a Kelpie in the past. Allong with some more unussual pets like raccoon-dogs.
So guess I better go over to the picture topic to show of my nice little boy and start doing some reading on these forums.
If you have any questions… then ask away.

I know, but for once, I have actually read the welcome mail you get after registering, and they ask in that mail to introduce yourself, and post pics in the other board. And good boy that I am, I follow the rules (for once :p).

Hey Kim, I usually take a lot of pics, so you will get to see a lot more of Voodoo AND his friends!
But for now, one more pic of his new 'big' brother:
